Awesome tow/service rig on ebay on East Coast, ends 2/28

Somebody on the east coast should scoop this up:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/2003-Ford-E-350-Extended-Cargo-Van-7-3-L-PowerStroke-Diesel-lots-extras-/160741023123?pt=US_Cars_Trucks&hash=item256ce95d93

03 E350 with 7.3 with low miles and a whole lotta extras. No reserve.

I would be buying this if it was east of the Mississippi.

Where does the service crew ride? Or do you have to take two cars now making the MPG even worse for towing.

I might be talking out of my ass here, but i am pretty sure something radical like removing the tool box and bolting in a bench seat might be possible.

Ha.. I think this is the conversation that finally got axel to buy a trailer. He kept saying how much he saved driving the car to rallies vs towing.. Then realized that there's normally 2 other service vehicles following him (my blue wrx and either a forester or another wrx wagon).. The total gas mileage for the 3 really wasn't that great at all.

If anyone wants.. I could probably have an east coast bud check it out.

I'd even be 1/2 tempted to fly out.. say hi to family, then drive it back..

Or maybe I could talk the ex truck driving mom to drive it out, visit, then fly back.. hmmm..

Everyone I know who have owned a E350 van to tow to and service at rallies now own crew cab pickup trucks. Sprinter vans are another story but okay.

Well, the quad cab pickups did go a bit more upscale after the last decade. Maybe they just wanted to be more comfortable? There has to be some sacrifice when swapping a 3-4k tow vehicle for a 60k one right?smiling smiley

Who buys new? You can find a used Duramax Crew Cab for $10-15k. Cheaper if you got a F250 from mid-late 90s.
Some big advantages.
4X4 but then again, we live in Colorado.
More comfortable.
Useful as a truck the other 49 weeks of the year.

Yeah.. Might not like the vans in the snow too much. Its odd living somewhere now that doesn't snow.

But WTH to do I know.. I've got an odd mix of van + truck, but at least its 4x4 with heated leather seats..

+1 I got my Ram 2500 6sp manual, 4x4 cummins for $16K. 2004 w/only 109K miles on it, was in perfect condition. In fact, its 100% more beatup now since I've owned it in the past3 yrs sad smiley 1

daily driver, holds a ton of shit + 3 people comfortably. 13.5mph towing fully loaded. just recently did a full seafoam cleaning of the injectors, crankcase and fuel tank and got 19mpg on my last trip to LA and back.

been averaging about 20K miles per year on it.

I only go MAYBE once a year....I've found any more than that, and the exposure is too much to take.

no kidding. (I was figuring i would install seats if i got that car.. my non FIA racing seats would work for 2 more folks) or ya. a bench...

I Actually had to turn down a crew member for prescott because we were out of seats. and he would have had to drive separate. =\ I have had rallies where i'm gassing up 2 cars... (those are rallies i'm driving too and i have a support vehicle) at first you're like sweet i'm getting 25mph in the rally car.. oh and dempsy got 22 mph that's pretty good. oh wait.. 22+25/4= 11.75 miles per gallon for the convoy ... Lame... ya and briefly i filled up 2 turbo imprezas and the rally car... think that was 7 or 8 mpg for the convey... And service was way to easy for you guys... :p

From driving a rally car crammed with gear. driving an E350 van with reclining seats and AC would be a huge setup for comfort for me and Jeana.. having just moved an engine and a transmission into a truck bed, and then a wingback chair the next day in a station wagon. I think a Van would rock. other than the whole getting seen in it.. and not wanting to Daily Driving it...

Jeana wants a ford truck. She'd actually like driving it. she's "okay ish" with a ford van . she really wants one with windows if we go van. but my crew chief says dodge (and he works on my vehicles) so i'm thinking dodge.

sprinter van eh? think any of those are in the 4K or cheaper range? (and still working) hehehe
