At 4.40 we se the advantage of that loooooooooooooooooooong 6 cylinder motor. BaY Em Fay straight and clips one snow bankon Right, ---no problem---the straight across road and goes right thru the other snow bank..straight the whole time. !!! Very Good.

And Jari I got the PM and the email but been fixing stuff in the rental house and tools that broke.

Great stuff, thanks for sharing!

I don't think the Bavarian Maggot Wagons were going off with any more frequency than anybody else...

What about the Escort that did the same thing earlier in the video? Or the Honda? or the many other cars that did the same thing.

Yeah, and all the cars that rolled simply didn't have enough Road Huggin' Weight (R). And they all would've been way faster on bald all season tires! grinning smiley

That does bring up a point: it's sooooooooooooooooooooo competitive, why hasn't somebody over there figured out what's now an established fact* that studded tires are slower and take advantage of that fact, and kick everybody's collective asses by using some Blaztzaks or Yoke-your -hammas?

I thought Finns were tough, but it seems that they are scardy-cats and rely on crutches of skinny tires and lame ass studs.

I am dis. Apoint

Pretty sure it was Topi that said a few years back that the E36 BMW is the rally car to have over there. I'm looking at two different ones actually over the next two days.

What do I "dislike" about BMWs? Finns are going into BMWs cause they've used up so many "better" cars. Better meaning simpler, stronger, cheaper cars..
Perosonally I "dislike" weak things, and everything about the CAR on BMWs is always a step or two smaller---car size for car size---than other things out there. Ball joint size, tie rod diam., pivot bolt size, gearbox size, ring gear size, CV size...
Then there's stuff they do unique like their single shear big fat bolt lower shock mounting, or their front struts being "old school" tube welded into the bottom forging until late 90s when they went to the "modded muffler clamp" design with 3 short bolts in shear..

It's not some whim or irrational dislike, it's details that cause problems for whet we're doing.

And that's not even mentioning the shit like bizarre "made for urban Germany" gearing with 4.25 first, and 2.86 final drive..

And their fixation with inline 6s... I'll admit I don't like inline 6s for what we're doing. Especially really heavy inline 6s that spit up parts if revved to 6000. 6 is more than 4 by 50% so when it comes time for a build or rebuild even 6 valves cost more than 4---for no advantage. 56 pistons cost 50% more than 4---for no advantage...etc etc...

But your taking silly comments about this vid more seriously that intended...

Well, Coloradoans are looking at going to BMWs because they are the best off the shelf RWD option that you can still find that likely don't require much work to get rally ready.
There's one Merkur in Colorado available for $1k.
There's currently zero Volvo 240s for sale. There's a few listed still but the owners don't respond or have already sold the cars.
There's four 325i's listed in the last week, just in Denver. There are two I'm going to look at, one is $1100, the other is $1300.
Then there are 318i, 318is, 318ti, 325is, 328i, 328is, 323i, and 323is that you can still look for.
I lean toward the 2.5 as it has enough power stock to be fun without having to do much. Intake, exhaust, chip, shocks/struts, brake pads, skid plates and go have some fun. Start looking for better final drives and LSDs. They exist. Ask Sean. Yeah, the gearbox becomes 2-5 instead of 1-4 but how is that much different than my Merkur with it's 100% useless 5th gear. The only time I have ever used 5th gear and only time it is even useable is over 90 MPH on the interstate. Downhill. As soon as road starts to go up I lose speed and have to go back to 4th.
325i - 4.23, 2.52, 1 .66, 1 .22, 1 .00
Zspec T5- 2.95, 1.94, 1.34, 1.00, 0.63

I'm trying to find one for a daily driver/tinker car so I can cage and sell this GC Impreza out front. Then I will start looking for another BMW or GC to buy with the proceeds and likely take one of the BMWs and do the same thing. Strip it, cage it, sell it. Or maybe find one of the many people interested in BMWs and easy and fun RWD rallying to pay us to finish the car for them.

The roads in the US are so fast and don't require the nimbleness of a Starlet or Escort right? smiling smiley

Thanks for posting the vid Jari! Loved it!!! Is Motors TV doing coverage again like they did last year? Those videos were super entertaining. They had a very similar formula for their production as we did for Max Attack only with much closer fields and higher levels of commitment. And more wrecks. smiling smiley

Yes. I caught the end of one awhile ago. http://www.motorstv.com/car/rally/finnish-f-cup-rally

Broadcast schedule for the next one:

FINNISH F-CUP RALLY KANGASNIEMI RALLY
Friday 09 March - 22:30
Rally competition in Finland is a national obsession and no other series draws as many passionate amateur competitors than the F-Cup.

Next broadcast:
Saturday 10 March - 4:55,
Saturday 10 March - 8:00,
Sunday 11 March - 22:05,
Monday 12 March - 13:55,
Thursday 15 March - 2:25,
Thursday 15 March - 7:25,
Thursday 15 March - 16:3

I've been watching Motors a lot lately via stream. It hurts my brain that I'm watching Canadian rally coverage from a British station over the internet because there is nobody that airs it here but whatever.

While I hate their old WRC coverage the worst show on Motors is still better than the couple of minutes of NASCAR I tried to watch over the weekend. Uggghh. Hmm except I guess the NASCAR rebroadcasts they air that is. LOL

Anyone wants the link PM me.

MOST of the cars in that video were out of control. There were a couple of EVOs that took those corners brilliantly, and quickly, but for the most part things were outa hand.
