The entirety of the rule is:

6.2.D.21. Any high flow catalytic converter(s) are allowed. Multiple catalytic

converters may be replaced by a single unit. The inlet of the

single replacement converter may be located no further downstream than

6" along the piping flow path from the original exit of the final OE converter.

Vehicles not equipped with a catalytic converter as original equipment are

not required to have one.

There's also the "we can kick you out for any reason we feel like" rule, which means any "gray" interpretation would be best done unobtrusively.

Hey guys on the focus what do you suggest for catalytic converters and mufflers.

I want it as quiet as I can get it but not squelch the flow.

How about a super helpful thread on cone squishing rallycross rules instead? winking smiley

Yah, kind of a threadjack, isn't it?

We'll see about mufflers. Looks like we're going with a 96db sound limit this year. Praying at the altar of Racing Beat as we speak. They sell mufflers that ain't cheap, but they are zero restriction, last basically forever, and if they can squelch rotary sound then they'd work on damn near anything.

Ask your friends who were at the Jan 7th event about the 12-gauge Mazda... It didn't take any tools to remove the old exhaust system.

Uh, run NASA so you don't have to have one? *grin*

I know, I know, geographically that's a bad fit. winking smiley I'll let other folks continue with the mechanical suggestions.

Anders

I thought 'no cat' for NASA was only for open class?

I know RA has a clause for no cats with diesel or 'alternative' fuels....so converto to diesel or run E85!!!!

Quote
RA
For all vehicles in all classes for all Performance Rally events, a
functional catalytic converter shall be installed. Functionality shall be
determined by a visible and complete grid within the catalytic converter.
The only exceptions that may be granted to the above rule, and then only
if documentary evidence is kept with the vehicle logbook, are:
1. For vehicles running the event powered by diesel or alternate fuel.

It applies to all the open classes:
Open AWD Heavy
Open AWD Light
Open 2WD Heavy
Open 2WD Light

Take a look at the Sandblast Rally entry list, 100% of the cars are in open classes:
http://www.nasarallysport.com//results/2012-Sandblast-Rally-entry-list.htm

Black River Stages had 1 stock-class car out of 35:
http://www.nasarallysport.com/results/2011-Black-River-Stages-entry-list.htm

Rally West Virginia had 1:
http://www.nasarallysport.com/results/2011-Rally-West-Virginia-entry-list.htm

So yes, there are a couple NRS cars (literally, 'two') that would need to have a cat on the entire east coast.

Given that... I don't see the relevancy of production classes in the current climate.

Hey Gene....you're a good person to ask: The RA rulebook also says you need to ask/announce in advance of the event if 'alternative' fuels are OK to use. So for E85, do people actually request or 'announce' before the event if they're running it? Or is it popular enough now that no one actually cares? Or is it just an organizer preference thing?

Not in this thread, but since you asked...

About 10% increase in car entries at Sandblast due to introduction of the RallySolo class.

Please list for me the rallies that wouldn't like 10% more entries.

Jon, that would be a Hurst question. Out here alternative fuels would be siphoned gas...

I can think of a few depending on how you get the 10%. BUT seems like there were 2 RS entries?

Yes. 2 out of 23. That's "about 10% more", although, more precisely, it's 9.5238% more. Now... that list you were thinking of?
