Judging by the video, he must have planned on using Vito as his brakes, there didn't seem to be any indication he was slowing down...

I dunno. It just seems some people get on a track and their brains just cease working....

When I had reached some point in my years on tracks I came back to the US and went to a few local events and just was appalled at the willingness to ram, block, drive stupid for nothing and basically decided the risk of injury from idiots was too high---and began looking back to the woods. If I hit a tree it was my fault...

I hope there's some way to pressure the idiot to owning up to his stupidity and help Vittorio on the repair costs. Ther OUGHT to be when its so clearly stupidity as the cause.....that ain't "just racing".

Agreed. Also, this was a rally not a road race. There really shouldn't be the expectation of "rubbing is racing."

As bad as road racers in the US may be, I'd still guess than 99% of Spec Miata guys out there (rumored to be some of the crashiest) would agree on this: that's fucked up.

hopefully whichever CARS member clubs are doing well enough to turn down his entry fees for a bit while he sits in the corner and thinks about what he's done.

That was just stupid, total fault fell on the Subaru. Hope he atleast meet up in the pits and said he was sorry for a bone-headed move. If not then the event organizer's need to do something to him, yeah I agree with baring him from the next event or so but I doubt that will happen though. It will be marked up to that "Happens" and it's "part" of racing.

Except complete lock-up of the brakes, far too late to actually make the corner.

Yeah, as in "there didn't seem to be any indication he was slowing down..."

Unless this was the first hard breaking zone, then there's no excuse for him not knowing that he'd have to brake real early and gently from speed. But no, our hero has to late brake to try and get by this pesky Audi, only to slam right into the audi, who had slowed down because he know you had to in order to make the turn, which he was in the process of doing. It really sucks that shit like this happens because some tool didn't think. Vito's out of the event and likely needs to spend 20 hours and $500+ to fix it.

Don't get me wrong. This sucks big-time and probably shouldn't have happened. A short youtube clip doesn't really tell the story though. (not that I know the story)

Looked like the guy in the subie tried to brake, locked 'em up and never lifted. Looks to me like red mist stupidity instead of malicious intent. Car no turny when wheels are locked, and the driver probably got target fixation.

Still no excuse for railing out of there on the revlimiter though!
