This kind of thing is exactly why I can't be bothered to run Rallye Sanair. Ran there in '02 with my original driver (who was both a rally driver and roadracer) and was not impressed with either the format or the (lack of) ability of most of the other competitors to not do something stupid in situations such as this.

I'm in agreement w/Brian - although in the rain it had its rally style moments of sideways-ness.

Matthieu did apologize - and I am certain it was a case of bad tires and bad judgement. I was nursing my clutch as it was slipping really badly - so watching for cars needing to pass. Lots of them did. I had just let this guy pass as well, but he went super wide on the next turn, so I held my line and went by him. My brakes and tires were working surprisingly well in the wet - in fact the car was turning in well and generally was easy to drive. If you watch the video, it looks to me like he was sliding 3/4 of the way down that entry straight. My opinion is that he came in faster than he normally would and applied braking later than he normally would and found himself in trouble - rookie mistake.

If I was running a Subaru - where you just bolt shit on - eh, it would suck, but a fairly quick fix.

As JVL mentioned - there's a lot of custom work in that car - its never an easy fix...and now I may be SOL until Bilstein comes up with some 50mm parts. I don't yet know if that shocker is bent, the lower bolt stretched through the ear holes, ears are toast, the knuckle twisted but didn't break, axle shaft toast, 3/4 panel and door.

I got really lucky in that Team Platto offered to help fix the car - if it were up to me, it wouldn't be ready for several months - time is at a premium right now. So the plan is to pickup a parts car this weekend - cut parts from it - transport to Quebec City 2nd week of May...

Most of what needs fixing is pretty easy, except for the boingers - we'll fix the ears, but if its bent - it'll need to go back to WA...next event is June 16th - if we can make it...

We had some good moments though in the 1.5 stages we ran:

Hi Vito,

Good to hear he apologized... most aren't malicious, even though it was a 'tool' moment, they happen.
When you say "Team Platto offered to help fix the car" is that his team? Is so then he's doing the right thing... if a different team, then that's rally awesomeness... Let's hope the insert isn't bent.

-Martin.

yeah - Louis and David Morrisette out of Quebec city.

Really smart young guys with a passion for Rally that is hard to find! We've been trading secrets for a couple of years (JVL - they would kill for a set or 4 of 50's!!), admittedly they've got more secrets than I do winking smiley - in the process of building their own dog box (cutting their own gears) and have a potential design for a sequential add-on in a stock 01E case - I've seen the design, totally do-able...

I also got to meet their family - really nice people - a breath of fresh air...

Chrome Horn, as I understand it, = bumper (which used to be chrome pieces on many cars) so, the legacy suffered the same fate is what I'm taking that to mean.

Last weekend was cold and rainy (as well as snow) here. Montreal probably had similar weather. A lot of tarmac tires simply don't work well in the cold. He probably way over-estimated the traction available in that kind of weather.

I road race a CRX (formerly raced a Spec miata) and the only time I got hit hard was by a Spec Miata (in Canada, ha!)
