It's missing some teeth. No idea how or why yet..but that is alarming enough to not run till we get in there and see wtf is going on.

Whats wrong with the flywheel?

What's wrong that can't be fixed quicker than waiting?

Only thing I could think that would KILL a flywheel would be the bolt holes to crank being wallowed out.

Wish people would be less cryptic than "my whatchermacallit done shat the bed"

Still have the stock one as a spare? why not run that. You don't want to miss Idaho if you can still make it. Is the trans out yet?

Is there a build thread for your car anywhere? I'm growing more and more curious as to what you have done to that protege.

I bought me a fidanza wheel that's s'posed to bolt onto a 95 or so Meotter, the one with the 1.8l mill.
As for build thread, there's a cliff notes version at my crapass cardomain page,
http://www.cardomain.com/ride/2599486/1990-mazda-protege

and the more comprehensive (stupid) thread is at

http://www.clubprotege.com/forum/showthread.php?44053-The-Frankenprotege-rallycar-worklog&highlight=frankenprotege+rallycar

This was supposed to have been the cheap easy inexpensive way to build some reliability into the car and if I'd known even 10% of what I was really getting into I never woulda started in on it and would be in a nice gp5 car where I belong, for probably less money. Ah well, this experience has taught me more than somewhat about car fabrication.

Jay, I have a good factory BPT flywheel sitting here. It already has the back rim machined off so it will bolt right on. You're welcome to borrow it for the rally or just get me another one to replace it.

I was supposed to drive but the motor I got had a really bad knock in it. So I got a refund and ordered a new one but it won't be ready in time. As soon as I got the bad news about the motor I called the guy I normally codrive for(Jason Staats) but he had just talked a friend into codriving for him. So I'll be riding with Mike Goodwin in SP. I'm really excited for this rally.

Naw, there's no "borrowing" this thing. The gearbox doth not slide out willingly. This is something that is going in and staying there for as long as possible. As it is, John and I are getting entirely too much practice at taking the godam thing out and putting it back in. That *doesn't* mean I wanna do it even one time more'n I gotta!
