Rally Idaho, gonna be a good one!!

A proper V from the upper bends gives very little more room at the headrest level. The back roof of nearly all race cars is supported only by the C pillar. While quite strong on most cars it is also unsupported in the middle of the window. I can't see how we could count on this as an escape route per se. It could easily be crushed down in the middle on a roll or wreck. No real justification in redesinging the main hoop support for escape routes.

There is always danger when rolling of landing on a roof or door or damaging body parts (cars) so they won't open. No way to engineer around that. Plant a car on its roof in the ditch and the doors simply won't open on most cars, sedans are the worst due to the window frame but hardtops have less strength. What do you do?? Don't wreck...

Those are required in RA aren't they? I know I have one. I keep it in the back in my First Aid kit...

And best keep it in easy reach of both of driver and co-driver. Right on top of the dash or above on the roof seems to work.

Oh look at that, on the standings page he is listed as in a Mazda 3 but on the entry list he is in the Celica. Some kind of typo, maybe? Since the Mazda 3 he did drive one time is the same one Barrett Dash is driving. DC Mk.2 can maybe chime in and clear up the confusion...

But but but but Dash is listed driving a Nissan Sentra..

We all know that all these modern Japonaise cars all look the same, maybe they just didn't check the licence plate numbers and just jumped in something that kinda looked like what they thought was their car..
Obviously they're all confused.

Naw, he's just using the strategy I should be using. Enter in your car. But behind your cars' back, you run a DIFFERENT car, so that when you car screws you over you still ahve something to drive.. I should look into it.

What good does it do there Grant? I keep one between the seats, easy to get to. Co-driver has been instructed how to use.

When we hit that tree, it took me a good 10 seconds to realize the doors were not going to open, and that I should rool down the window. I personally will never to lexan front windows just for the escape plan.

I was working Harris Creek and heard the chick at the next station up from me call in the hunters that decided to drive around her and out onto the road. About 5 minutes later, I had 2 trucks pull up behind our car. Since there weren't any more updates, at least not that I could hear where I was, I had no idea what was going on. Luckily I had a creek on both sides of me and they couldn't get by without pushing the car out of their way (kia rio, so if they'd really wanted out, they'd have made it happen without too much trouble). My guys tried to be intimidating at first, but then they got really nice and I enjoyed talking to them. They actually did have a bear in the back of their truck.

Anywoo, they were a bit disappointed when everyone came through at transit speed (well, everyone but the Z and a few of the UTV's anyway).

Hopefully within the week I'll be able to post some of the pics my friend took.

I know. No good really, which is funny that it's required but totally unable to be used from within my own car.
Then again, I've heard it said that most of the hammer things won't actually break automotive windows. I'm just gonna start carrying around broken bits of porcelain and a slingshot.

The hammer things work fine. I knocked out the rear side windows in the new shell with one swing of the pointy end.

i just have a spring folding knife with a pointy end i kept with me for idaho clip to my lap belt. Its what the military issues to drivers for such things. (flipping upside down in a humvee).

Nor was it going to be easy to get out the windscreen if I was able to break/kick it out. I had some folks tell me to replace the rear window with Lexan but I certainly don't want to make it hard to get out. Basically I want the lexan (if I go that route) with just enough fasteners to keep the window from blowing out but not too many that I couldn't easily kick/punch it out.

Honestly, I am freaked out that if we had been in a creek right upside down, we might not have survived.
