Crane nailed that corner. i blew it both times (first time on just rim on my front left)
I had Hard compound tires S8 silverstones. think my newest tire is stamped made in 04? my best tread tire leaked bad so i left it home. and i decided to do this to my 2nd best tire on stage 3 (slid off a mile or so in and smacked a boulder real good) ![]() the other 3 tires got off the ground and my alignment slide (camber and toe) not sure if i hurt the rack or subframe yet. car seems to drive fine. and when i finally got back to service here is what i put on : ![]() oh some how i had 1 soft tire... ![]() After stragtening out my alignment by eyeball in the parking lot i was only a few seconds michel each stage, who was only a few seconds off Dan (Open Light class winner) Dan was also on some soft hankooks that looked new in expose. pretty damn sure with fresher tires i could have been up there with him (though i think he would have still won) though i do wonder at what point that i should try just running on some street tires? i had some 80% michilin touring tires that might have actually had more grip ... esp when it was really cold and wet... hmm... oh well it was still fun . Wish i had my "learning moment" on film but i had camera battery issues . Unlike michel who did a test drive to check his camera position, i did not, and my camera is up too high and doesn't get a good view of the road. ![]() oh and i moved my van around in my driveway to see how my spare tire holder would be installed... and my fucking transmission just died. ![]() ![]() also how lucky , over half the miles I've put on this van have been towing. I am quite happy it broke in my drive way (actually off to the side on the gravel) instead of while towing me home. but fuck... grr. so i need new rally tires, and a transmission repair . Reno is close enough i can drive so i guess that solves which problem to tackle first... ![]() |

Ok, here's the camera data: Contour+ Mode: Contour HD - 720p Quality: High White Balance: Auto (Resolution: 1280x720 Frame Rate: 30fps Aspect Ratio: 16:9 Field of View: 170 degrees) Seems to work out to about 10min/Gb on the video card, although they say it's 15min/Gb. The bigger problem was battery life - it was dead Sunday morning. I'm not sure if I left it on all night or if just having it idling all day Sat used it up. I recharged it while we were out doing the first leg on Sunday, which is why I don't have those videos. I think I need to order a second battery and an external charger. Self-righteous douche canoe |

Looks good. What motor? what gears and final drive? John Vanlandingham Sleezattle, WA, USA Vive le Prole-le-ralliat www.rallyrace.net/jvab CALL +1 206 431-9696 Remember! Pacific Standard Time is 3 hours behind Eastern Standard Time. |

The problem with watching those videos is I can see all the mistakes I made. I'm sitting here going "Why the f*ck didn't I downshift there?...What the hell was that line?..."
Anyway, it's a 2.0L ABA block with an 8v CIS head and a lumpy cam. I think the compression ratio is around 13:1. The transmission is a VW Motorsports gearset with a tall first and super close ratio after that. I think the f/d is something like a 4.85 because it winds out at about 105mph, but with the peculiar gearset it's hard to tell exactly. I don't know the details - it's pretty much what Dave White had in the car back in the day. All I did was have the tranny overhauled and put in a new clutch. Edit: I'm not sure if I was clear, but that's not the P-Stock car I was campaigning in previous years. That's Dave White's old G2 car. Self-righteous douche canoe Edited 1 time(s). I know whatya mean about the "what wuz I thinkin???GAS IT FOOL!" Nice how that relatively simple motor works well with the gearbox. Compression and gearing and it goes quick---imagine that! Contour cameras are the Jam. and they're Seattle based.
Having GPS is nice - check out the videos with the contour link. stg-1 max 50 average 33.7 (averages include ~1min of sitting at start/coast down at the end) stg 2 max 86.8 ave 45.9 stg 4 max 76.6 ave 43.5 stg 7 max 81 stg 9 79.2 stg 10 81.5 stg 11 max 81.5 . . . You always know when they're on. you can use bluetooth to aim the camera, check the battery, change settings. I always set mine to 'spot meter' so that the road never gets washed out (as long as it's pointed out the windshield). 60fps? a switch on the back to change between shooting modes. have you seen the fun easy timelapse videos you can make in camera mode? Since the lens rotates, you can get a lot more mounting options that don't shake around a ton. plus the mic isn't behind a hard plastic case, so you can hear what's happening. a replaceable battery is nice, and you can 'hot wire' them to run off a larger external battery. Sean M is going to do a quick mod to get intercom input on his older 1080HD model. If you've got an event you're doing and want to borrow my GPS camera for the weekend let me know. I like the form factor of the Contour better and the pivotable lens. I have only two gripes: 1) there's no way to rig a remote start/stop, and 2) the audio recording is mono-only. I'd like to be able to do a stereo input where one channel is car sounds and the other is an intercom feed, like I used to have with my ChaseCam. Then I can mix it in post-processing. As it stands now, I'll have to rig some sort of audio mixer in the car. Self-righteous douche canoe |

We have a contour. we don't like the native .mov file format as 1) we are not mac guys and 2) we can't natively upload to youtube without a lengthy file conversion process. The form factor is nice, especially for active sports guys. The camera gets pretty hot (mounted next to rear view mirror on cage) and when hot the battery drains pretty quickly. Video performance is great. It's difficult to see if it is recording as the LED is on the front of the camera pointed at the windshield. |
