If you mean me Derek Bottles, well I do not own any rally cars right now.
If you mean Derek Nelson - well he is one fast dude. Now if I could get tech to pass my street car and if I could use some spare 15" rims with rally tires I am sure I could make the top 10 in my street car. In the long run reality always wins. |

Tom,
Re: The Butt.. YOU GUYS KICKED IT! Props on a great drive at Doo Wops both days! You were hauling some serious ass from the get-go. To be hanging with Tennis and Hartmann (when he was in it) deserves the two thumbs up..When you passed us (the car was having a smoke break) you guys were flying! Love spectating less than 10' off the road.. ![]() There was a lot of attrition from stage one, and it was pretty bad on Tahola. Day two seemed to be a bit better.. The blue bunny earned a bunch more well earned respect over the weekend. Hope to see you guys back out at OT ready for action. ![]() Build the car, race the car, crash the car, fix the car..Repeat |

I was totally surprised by the results from last weekend.
Especially on the first day; I mean fifth overall, in a rabbit? I think a few people weren't pushing very hard... The car felt stupid easy to drive all weekend long, well until we lost a tire and the rear brakes on the same stage. I think the only stage that I really felt like we were pushing on was the first one on day one...we backed off after that and really just enjoyed the rest of the rally (hell, 70% of the group 2 field was out after the first stage). I would love to get in a battle with Nate Tennis though, that guy is a hell of a driver and set some great times. The car and the team should be out and ready for Oregon Trail. What happened to you guys? -Tom DemonRallyTeam | Fine Tuning | CTS Turbo & RP Turbos | RalleyTuned | JRM | Meister Autowerks Spitfire EFI | Product Apparel | JVAB Imports | NLS | AP Tuning | USRT Add us on Facebook | Next Event: 2013 Olympus Rally June 22-23 Olympia, WA |

People were pushing, but some lose focus after a couple cars off on the first stage.
Driving smart and saving the car is always a good idea when attrition sets in, but you guys were still moving well enough to stay in the top 5 fray. G2 did wind up just falling apart all of a sudden.. As far as what happened to us: The car wasn't happy from the first stage..Fuel/boost cut started the first time I put it in 5th (where it's been great in testing). We were moving 80-90 where we should have been going 100+ in the fast sections. Still in the top 10, but off the pace. It was a distraction to say the least. Every time it cut, a second here, a second there, and losing power. The joys of standalones..The tuner hadn't showed me how to change the map. Which was ok because if done wrong, would blow up the engine..At any rate, on stage 3 past the crane, launched off of the huge dip, got on it and about 2 turns later, 2 loud pops (ala rifle style), and the car began to choke and sputter. We pulled off on the straight and tried to get out of the way as much as possible..Great spectating spot! During a test drive later that night, it double popped so violently that it lit up the woods like a lightening strike..then proceeded to misfire. At that point we decided to trailer the car..Sometimes it sucks to do the right thing. Helping with service was fun on Sunday, as well as hanging out with all of the rally cronies.. Found out on Monday the map (it was tuned at 65 deg., 75% humid.) didn't like the cold (35-45) dense (100%) humid, air charge and was overboosting and getting out of the "parameters". 35 degrees at 3600 ft is way thinner air, way less volume, less boost, etc. With a datalogging run and adjustments to the map, we'd have been in it for Brooklyn. Felt like my hands were tied when the car quit. That's not going to happen again, as I've been getting familiar with the software and the ecu.. Sucks to not make Smith Creek and Brooklyn, but at least my car isn't in a wad from it shitting the bed going 80 into a turn and winding up on the lid. When you are thinking about the car, it's hard to get "the Drive" on.. No matter how much testing you do, it's hard to replicate Taholah in testing.. ![]() Looking forward to Oregon Trail. (and a bunch of new maps) Two of the Old Leggies wound up in the top 10 and in the Brooklyn record books..Props to Gabe V on his 7:00 run and Mager for the 7:13 run in my old beast. Build the car, race the car, crash the car, fix the car..Repeat |
