ChumpRally tm can be done. Just a new class for existing events. Four member teams - each member required to drive at least one stage and co-drive at least one stage - can swap out driving/co-driving between stages and services. No biggie in my book. Good way to distribute the cost of the event and probably cheaper than the $1000 entry fee for a ChumpCar event. Plus, it is an untapped market. Once they get a taste doing it at the chump level they will probably start doing it for real.

In fact, call it "LoCo Rally" for low cost rally plus obvious double entendre. I claim copyright, but give Anders a perpetual license to start it for NASA events. "Talk about drugs. The multi-driver, low buck idea was tried already in the southwest with FiverRally (or something like that) wasn't it? Did that ever get off the ground? Was there ever any 'real' interest?

Probably because it had a really lame name and was not promoted. Did it ever happen? "Talk about drugs. Chump/lemons is not at all comparable to rally.
"cheaper" car, 1/2 the cage, half the safety gear in the car, costs split over 4 drivers, more accessible venues, Lemons/chump is more affordable. That's why its more popular. It's not that its less professional, its that it's easier to get into. Also, a question/guestimate of mine would be a larger number (50% or greater) of the chump/lemon drivers were already racing some sort of track cars BEFORE they started racing chump/lemons... So they "grew the series" from people *already racing* Welcome to the cult of JVL drink the koolaid or be banned. |

Hahaha, wow. "But in Canada..." "In Canada..." "Here in Canada..." ![]() If the topic had anything to do with Canada, you would be able to tell because the video would mention a Canadian event or a Canadian sanctioning body. Of course I don't include what's happening in one part of Canada when discussing what's happening in this country. I'm sorry Morrison, but the only person even thinking about Canada is you. Anders Grassroots rally. It's what I think about. |

That's about as insular as you can get isn't it? It also isn't about me, or the region I'm in. If I were in a region that was suffering for entries I would tend to look at areas that are not suffering and see if there is anything I can learn from them to help my own area. (We've done that regularly in the region, which is part of what makes us strong... but then I guess you don't want to know about that.) Thing is we're still circling around the question of what we are talking about in terms of 'what has been changed by so many.' Not only that, but you only hinted at 'the problem' you're talking about - so I was left to guess what it was. If we get back to the 'topic at hand,' or the current RA videos, or lack thereof, from what I've seen they do a good job of looking at the broader field and don't focus solely on the 'big' teams. Matt takes the time to look for the stories and show more than just 'his buddies.' The big teams are bringing in crews to do their own videos, so don't confuse those with 'official' RA PR work. 'Live' coverage of STPR was a failure. No one will argue otherwise. 'Live' coverage of most rally events will be suspect, at best, because it will always be difficult to do well. Something happening every minute and taking a day to unfold doesn't make for good live coverage. (Even the PowerStage at the WRC level was a questionable success... maybe - and a big maybe - critically popular, but was it successful from a ROI perspective?) A new iron curtain drawn across the 49th parallel. Cut all diplomatic ties as we expel all American dignitaries and issue a nation-wide travel advisory for any others left inside. Nowhere to run. Nowhere to hide. The burned out shells of south-bound traffic lay strewn along a cold stretch of would-be interstate. Still visible below their charred remains: Pax Americana plates. Your stupid fucking laser-pucksâ„¢ were just the start. And while you may stand six full cubits and a span, we got a shepherd’s sling and five stones in our hand and the battle of 1812 lives in our hearts. We don’t care if we’re destroyed. We’ll never capitulate. We’ll take the whole fucking world down with us in flames. Just a speculative fiction. No cause for alarm. We got a good 15 years left ’til the United We Stand murals on West Broadway finally fade and we wave good-bye to such sad, childish refrains. Replaced with other stupid lullabies like you can have my guns when you pry them from my cold dead hands. Just a speculative fiction. No cause for alarm. Propagandhi "Talk about drugs. BS. Maybe US competitors down south don't think about Canada, but US competitors up here (in the PNW) and in the northeast do. alan |

If I am going to post on this thread, I might as well post something on the original topic.
I thought that the video was kinda harsh considering that STPR was one failure out of live coverage experiment that has otherwise worked better than I thought it would. alan |

Did anybody watch the official video that came out afterward?
Here it is. Starts out pretty good but they totally flop at the end. Really decent at covering what's been happening, who is winning, some decent recap/interviews, etc. Then it flops. No final results, recap of the final stages, review of accidents, etc. It is cool that they have fancy cameras now and are using so techno-ee music that's so popular right now but they gotta remember, they're still trying to tell a story and have to finish that story. AND... you can't take 10 minutes to not tell that story with online videos unless you're REALLY good at storytelling. Slowmo and techno is heavily over-used in this video and even at its best it doesn't work. ![]() Slow motion film needs to die in a fire if in the span of an hour more than 5 seconds of it is used. Pretty sure Keith said everything else that needed to be said (I'm on the Keith bandwagon lately, in case you haven't noticed). Reinvent the wheel, or look at what others are doing right...? Some people think they are much too special in their "differentness". And to keep this thread alive, GLOBAL BROTATOCROSS IS THE WAY OF THE FUTURE! ![]() |
