Why Gap jumps are stupid

Jumps like that are a perfect example of why I avoid southern California.

Gronholm just had his roof chopped off and was transported to the hospital unconscious.

... maybe someone should rethink course design or something.

Im still iffy about the jump. I doubt I will ever run GRC, so deciding if its too dangerous to do isn't really a worry of mine.

He went off the jump, now a table top. Something in his front left broke and his car veered into a concrete barrier light thing. The car was bouncing off the limiter for a minute or so. Crazy stuff, apparently a few of the drivers are refusing to drive until there is a course revision.

It's a huge bummer that he was hurt so badly, and I hope that he's doing better very soon.

The jump had little to do with this crash. Marcus cut the next corner very tight and clipped the end of a temporary concrete barrier. The course designers left a gap around the base of a light post - one concrete barrier on one side, and one on the other. I would guess this was done due to physical restraints and to make the course as wide as possible at that point (probably another light post or monument on the other side of the course). Definitely a poor setup.

Still, I would chalk this crash up to driver error. Marcus just tried to cut it too close. I bet if he remembers anything when they interview him, he'll say just that.

I hope they can adjust the course to remove any of those situations for tomorrow.

Why do we need rallycross when we have the Lucas Oil Off Road Racing Series? Or for that matter monster trucks. I bet a driver could actually make real money in monster trucks. GRC is further segmenting a finite pool of viewers/revenue. If I had it my way I would want a european style rally cross series and dump everything else. Unfortunatly none else feels the same way.

Back to the jump and such...seems like a vastly different perspective between entertainment producers and motorsport sanctioning bodies on what is correct, safe, allowable, fair and so on.
