Disposables cost estimates range between $800 and $1200 per year. We'll spend under $500 total cloth diapering on material and estimate for water and detergent around $100 per year so the savings is pretty substantial.
But hey, it's like the Subaru vs. 2WD debate. Everyone thinks disposables are worth the effort and that cloth diapers are SO much work. I'm doing it and it's super easy.
I also found a 40k mile longblock locally for $150 that I'm hoping to pick up this week, Sean's working on chassis harness as we speak, John's got my damper (sorry gotta call you back), one cage finished last week, next one coming into the shop tomorrow, all fuel system stuff is here, stand alone with new engine harness is here. It's pretty much assembly time. Think I'm going to aim to do the hill climb in Grand Junction at the end of September. All you Idaho peeps should come to that one. Epic road! Considered by most to be more fun and challenging than Pikes Peak when it was dirt. And it's cheap and you get money back, more if you win!

Camp at start line. Full open recce with as many passes as you want. 3-4 runs on Saturday for practice, race on Sunday with two runs. Right in the heart of Colorado's wine, mead, and peach country.
Entry likely to be in the 250-300 range this year. If they get enough entries and/or sponsors there will be a prize fund. The city started charging the club and exorbinant fee the past few years which really cuts into the purse and caused an increase in entry fee. But at 25-30 competitive miles repeated, open spectating for friends and family and crew, super easy schedule, and open recce, it's a great value!

There's at least three baby consignment shops I've been to. We got a Baby Bjorn at the baby shower, then I found one at consignment for $80 less, so we returned the new one and used it to buy our crib mattress. All our big stuff like baby carrier, stroller, crib, etc have been hand me downs from family. Most of the rest we bought ourselves. We did buy some Ikea bookcases for bedroom and I did use real wood for crown molding and chair rail and fairly high end wallpaper for the walls. But the baby room turned out amazing. Oh, I have a pic on this computer...

The room looks really nice!

So much work!

We did cloth for "in house" stuff, and for trips out and about would take some disposables for inevitable messes.
With kids, like everything else the rule is NO DOGMA.

We are a cloth diaper family as well, they are great. Easy to use, easy to wash, easy to deal with. My wife got really into the different patterns and trying different styles. I think we own over 100 cloth diapers at this point. Grants number is more realistic.

Our kid is on solids now and spraying the diapers is not a big deal. We just took a 5 gallon pail cut the bottom off and set it in the toilet and hold the diapers to the sides with binder clips.

Only major challenge is longer multi day trips to locations that do not have laundry facilities require us to bring a lot of diapers. Other wise we just bring two days worth and wash diapers everynight.

Grats on the child. I grew up going to Mid-Ohio race course. Was there at 3-weeks old. Also grew up going to the Sunriser and Tulip rally's. We have 5 kids and can't get a single one interested in racing or cars of any kind. The had more fun playing in the creek and woods the couple of years took them to Cheerokee Trails and SandBlast. ASk them everytime now and they just don't want too. Love the rooms guys. The potty training will come around, we found that pre-school was a big helper in getting out of pull-ups.

If i can clean up after my stupid puppy going potty and throwing up on the carpet, i think i can handle my actual child's diaper with a hose and bucket / toilet setup

Jeana was a little worried at first (thinking she will have to do all the diaper cleaning) but i told her i would take even days and she seems fine now.

I do need to setup the nursary. and at some point see about doing some modifications to the Van ... I think a sink and working AC would make the van a lot more baby friendly... though that might seriously hurt my ability to recreuit crew... LMAO

we'll see how long i'm just a rally volunteer before getting back in the drivers seat. I figure i should be able to at least do NNR 2013 ... no clue on anything else... Maybe HDT + Mendo since they are both shorter tows for me and all that jazz

Also, DON'T EVER LET YOUR WIFE KNOW THAT PINTREST EXISTS.

You will have more crazy pregnancy diy/reclaimed projects than either of you could ever finish. Your hallway will have two 6 foot windows waiting to turned into who knows what, your patio won't be a haven where you can put your feet up (instead full of reclaimed park benches, picnic tables, and sawhorses) You wont be able to find a single wood working tool, you will find your grinding discs filled with wood because they sanded some things faster. Your garage will have 3 old strollers in need of refurb (why would anyone ever need 3 different two seat strollers? "I'll sell the ones I don't like when I'm done fixing them"

Yeah, Abbey's dad had one he made from hand back in 1977 that they gave to us. It's still sitting, mostly sanded since we were going to repaint it, in the garage. We used one given to us by my sister instead.
There are so many other much more fun wood working projects than a crib. The nicest thing about the one we have now is adjustable height so right now we don't really have to bend over to reach down into it. I think last night was first night she did whole night from 10-8 in crib. Minus the 2 am and 5 am drink fests of course.

I was thinking about bookshelves, a fireplace and mantle, and the wainscotting/crown molding project in our living room this morning. That led me into the sun room/sauna addition off the back porch as well as the farm animal barn/shed I want to build off the driveway. Now to find the $20k to fund said projects...

Cribs are not that important for a few months so I say go for it. If baby gets here and it's not done and not going to be, you can always hop on craigslist and pick up a used one.
