STPR vs RWV

Why such a huge difference in entry numbers?
Genuinely curious. Seems like RWV had a bit longer competitive times so more seat time and from what I have seen historically much better stages? So why almost 3 times more entries at STPR? Is that 400 miles closer to the NE the difference? Is it June vs. July? NASA vs. RA?
RA has removed location from the entry list page so can't see how many competitors tow near WV on their way to STPR to assess that.
I'm just genuinely interested though I think it's fairly multifaceted and partially unanswerable.

I hand calculated them already. Average of average winning was 63.43 MPH. Fastest was just shy of 70 MPH, slowest about 52 MPH.

Not sure on the distance thing, I've got a lame excuse for not being there. I would think that BRS would be able to draw the same number as STPR but doesn't. RA and NASA seem to draw different crews to the events without a lot of cross talk. Until a large percentage of the regional teams start doing +5 events a year there might not even be a reason.

I's puzzled too, STPR traditional roads are wide and blindingly fast, WesVirginnya seems to have lots of turns..

Some peeps seem top like to blaze ahead at high speed and impress themselves with that; some peeps like a challenge of driving, more turns is more driving, maybe.

I would guess STPR is aided by history. How long has it been around vs. RWV? A piece of the reson we're doing Ojib is it was a long standing "must do" rally.

Having just returned home from RWV. I have to say this year was great. The roads fast and yes twisty. I believe the problems from last year had something to do with this year's entrants being small. Stages where in great shape this year. I worked 2 spectator points and both have great viewing area's that are easy to get to. I also think that the established factor of STPR and also that RA has a bigger publicity machine helps draw teams. I can only hope that next year more teams look into running RWV. THere is so much potentional to expand the rally. All is needed are the volunteers and teams to sign up.

Like someone mentioned before it is mostly history. STPR has been around for a long time and has a strong reputation with competitors and spectators. It has also been a RA/SCCA National for a long time. RWV has always had great roads but is a new event (5-6 years?), missed one year, and changed HQ locations a couple of times. With more history and stability this event will continue to grow. I hope I can get back there next year.

Sure. For the winners, you can find their speeds on the stage speed graphs already. But I can picture the type of thing you want, like the detailed stage times page only with speeds instead of times.

I'm already calculating it on the back end for the speedfactors, so it will be easy to put into a report.

Grassroots rally. It's what I think about.

Combination of Last year for RallyWV and RA vs NRS.

I would think that after the favorable reviews of RWV this year they'll be more entries next year. You have to think that STPR gets at least 15 entries it normally wouldnt get just for being a national race.

So between the two it probably accounts for the difference.

There were 31 National entries at STPR --- without a *marketable* (fwtw) National Championship to chase, you will probably only be able to convert a handful to running a non-RA-National event.

So, that leaves about 35-40 entries that _might_ simply be doing the regional events that are fun and/or close-ish to them. Rally WV had a number of entries that would be expected for this IMHO.

Rwv was killer this year!! Absolutely the best time I've ever had behind the wheel . First time Ive ever been over 120mph on a tight gravel road ! Nothing like it ! RWV all the way.. SnowShoe is amazing , probably the best scenery I've ever seen! The main bar in the village has excellent buffalo wings too!!!!!!!!

Wow, you hit 120mph? We only got out of 4th (90-95mph) once for a few seconds in 5th on a long downhill straight....

Yea.. on the 550 straight. my car will do 90 mph in 3rd got into 4th on the 550 to the floor!!! Got over 90 on that rail road bed 400.. hairy for a second! My car is turbo.. probably a little more power than the golf.

That was @ a glance to.. may not have been exactly 120mph but def. over 100 . Hard to take your eyes off the road..lol
