Rally Tires Available in North America?
August 19, 2012 07:03PM
Hi Rally Anarchy.

I would like to know ALL the ice, snow, and gravel compound tires available in North America. I don't know where to start. I have tried searching and found some results, but no specific threads.

Money is no object, this is for simple statistical information.

Thanks,

Carthik

Not sure what you want here.... "I would like to ALL" doesn't make much sense...buy all, know all, sell all, list all...???

Available, meaning for sale. Yes, a list. I don't see how my post is unclear.

*edit, just realized my grammatical error, fixed*

Subesports and Libra for Bridgestone.
Greasecar for Dmack.
Somebody's got some Yoko's.
Someone else probably has some Pirelli's.

Good place to start is to look at vendors from specialstage.com's websites.

Average price of gravel tires in North America: $200 or so.
Quantity sold: Not enough to make a business on.
# of companies that have tried to break into the market: 8 or 9.
Number that have lasted more than a few years. 2 and it's likely a small part of overall business and sourced by a large global supplier (See first sentence on first line of this reply).

DMACK Tyres available in Canada

These are all available, instock in Toronto. Very similar selection is available from DMACK USA.

I think you mean BF Goodrich (the tire artist formerly known as Michelin).

Grant left out the Michelin tires at Sube Sports and Libra Racing (my preference).

The Tabors told me they have "basically" run out of Silverstones. As in, they have enough for their own use for the next six months, but aren't really selling them.

I don't think anyone in the US handles Yokohama but an relatively certain RallySport.ca will ship them south of the border.

Fourstar handles Pirelli in Canada, probably ships to the US

I though I heard something about Grant bringing in Black Rocket rally tires from Finland.

Doug Nagy at Streetwise can get Yokos on the west coast.

I think Susquehannah has them on the east coast, but I'm not sure.

Nope. I looked into it at one point but nothing firm. Maybe in future.
Their capacity if doing one size/one compound is such that it would take maybe 2 months to fill a container. That's if they stopped producing tires for their main market of Sweden and Finland.
Yeah, mean BF Goodrich, not Bridgestone. And that is the replacement to Michelin btw.
Sounds like Yokohama is interested in finding someone to sell them in US. At least some CORX guy posted saying they've offered him an awesome deal on them but he has to buy a "ton" of tires in one size or double the quantity for two sizes.
Dave Kern had talked to Federal about bringing in their tires. The US rally market is a little small and the distribution method (you mean we couldn't just sell them through our existing dealer chain successfully) wasn't satisfactory.

Sorry for the delay, thanks for all the replies. I'm not really concerned about what's available in Canada and what's available in the US. I can just drive into Niagara to pick up tires if need be. Where is Old School Motorsports in Toronto? Their website doesn't have an address or phone number.

So the list so far is:
-Yokohama
-DMack
-Pirelli
-BF Goodrich

How come no-one mentioned Khumo?

I like DMack's business mindset regarding keeping their tires affordable. They seem to be significantly cheaper than the other brands. Are there any other brands which are cheaper than DMack? Who has the best prices on DMacks in the US?

Thanks again,

Carthik

Because Kumho does not sell rally tires in US anymore. They weren't that good of a tire, but they were cheap and available through Discount Tires' distribution network.

Dmack as stated above are sold in US by Greasecar and in Canada by OSM. Not distributed by them, sold by them. The US rally tire market is too small to have anything other than individual sellers, not distributors.
Though Hankook did try the distribution method. I think margins were something silly for resellers, like $15 on a $165 tire.
