Even if I don't get to compete, probably going to go down anyways to crew. The roads are a frieking blast from the 2007 rally!

This is nuts!
In all my many, many years of rally, I've never seen so many.
Has there ever been too many entries to an american rally? Is there a theoretical limit??

My third rally was Oregon Trail 2002. Since my driver was an unknown quantity, we were started near the back of the line, something like 78th car on the road.

Maine Forest (now NEFR) 2001 had 108 starters.

Last night I posted the stage schedule, so you can do the math yourself on where the limit is. It is bit over 3 hours between the first and second runnings of the Cougar/Pee/Nahwatzel loop.

Pray for light rain before the rally to keep dust down so dust minutes aren't needed.

Those were fun events. I was somewhere back near you guys in the order at Oregon. Maine actually had 121 starters in '01 (The RRN list is only showing National and dual entry cars, but leaving out the regional only entries.). My driver and I were either 118th or 119th on the road to start that year. I think it was our 3rd event. Or, my 3rd, his 4th...

Geeee whiz, people must be responding to the improved economic conditions in the last almost 4 years....

Wonder what could have caused that?

The local draw could be that there was no Doo Wop or Wild West or Mtn Trials or people to spend their money and break their cars at.

The national draw could be teams had plenty of time after NEFR to put their cars back together. Plus, maybe a little "if X is going to be there, I had better be there".

It would be interesting to actually ask the entrants why they decided to enter, particularly the guys who haven't been around a lot recently. (But don't make them think about it too much)

Maybe a little bit of "oh, those roads?".

Seriously, how many would come crawling out of their hidey holes for Olympus if we managed to get back the Capital Forest roads?

Finally getting my car back together after breaking it at the last rally....plus a house and other big dramas meant we had to wait a bit to play again.

There's a lot of names on there that haven't been around recently.
Too bad Dave Kern isn't entered. Would be a good shake down of his M3 Compact and with two other M3's at the event a good one for servicing and parts availability.
I looked at flights thinking I'd go out and film a Navy Seals Max Attack coverage of 2WD.

All the RA events have had increases in entries, not just new guys but some older names coming back as well. The only truly reliable metric for predicting entries over the years has been the economy I believe.

I had been thinking about it, but wanted to use Land's End HC as a shakedown event. With the ColoSpgs fires, a rescheduled Pikes Peak forcing a LEHC date change, I'm not sold that a tow that long is in my best interest for its maiden voyage.

In other news, 5 Yoko AO34s with nubblies are now in my garage. When's that snow event in the high country scheduled for? smiling smiley
