Put a computer with internet access at service and let teams/crew enter their own updates. I know it would give my crew something to do while waiting for us to get back. No need for a volunteer to wander around looking for stories.

Yeah, there's no way anything could possibly go wrong with this...

Actually that's not really that far off of what Rally America is currently doing. Instead of doing any updates, they are relying on competitors to post updates to twitter and/or facebook and/or instagram, etc. instead of having to do any actual work themselves. Problem is the same shit just gets reposted time and time again and the posts are usually not that much quality.
I have been known to post false updates to twitter and more commonly totally irrelevant things about grade C women at the bar or losing socks when you have to take a dump in the trees during a rally and forgot toilet paper.

I guess I could give RA more of a pass if you didn't have to go to their website for start lists, results etc. Then, after having been driven to their website, there are all kinds of tabs to click on for updates etc. If they have no ablity or plans or will to post updates or results, take the tabs down. The fact that the tabs are there lead to expectations.

Pretty much sums it up. Under promise, over deliver. Just like with the live stream.

They (RA) can't publish data they don't have. RA does not have a fleet of helicopters or Geek Squad cars just waiting at a moments notice to retrieve scores from a regional event for the internet participants...

This is perhaps the absolute stupidest thread I can recall in years, funny part is the 'grass roots' champions suggesting that regional rallies should expect national level media. Maybe umbrella girls trump stages being run, and posting scores on the net is more important than a road guard in some areas . I can't ever recall at any DooWop meeting or Wild West of anyone spending huge concerns over posting stuff online when other issues seemed (foolishly I guess) more important to the event itsself.

And btw, RA does provide templates for time cards, tech sheets, registration forms, operation manual, rules set, wrist bands and plenty of help for anyone wanting to bring a new event. So maybe some of the grass roots guys could put just a bit less 'ass' in grass roots.

So an event that desperately wants to get back on the national calendar doesn't have to do what it takes to be a national event?

I called the Rock Creek General Store and asked if they had wifi and the answer was no. But the guy on the phone sure knew where the closest place was... just up the road 1 mile and their wifi is always on, and free, at a bar and grill. It seems like getting scores online in less than 2 days could have certainly been done, and been done on site... by either foot traffic in less than 15 minutes or a bicycle in less than 5.

There ya go...it is an event issue. Maybe it wasn't important to them, maybe the scoring runner blew a shoe lace, I don't know. What I do know is it is not an RA generated issue and you, my friend, have yet to chair an event I believe, so be careful the criticism of others who have. Hopefully yours go all perfectly, seriously, and no issues. Anyone stupid enough to organize an event these days needs all the consideration, courtesy and condolences they can get.

So many butt hurt rally people online today, first Anger management rallymoto guy over there now this...

Ojibwe was epic. It's organizers did a fracken' great job with a new town, new format and new route. It was cheap. The roads were great. There were plenty of RA folks around. some I gather just helping out, and that is 100% cool dude stuff on their part. Everything was at the Holiday Inn on the Lake and I know for a fact there was plenty of internets, as when my entry got hacked (story for another day) Bob N showed me internal RA Email.

I can't imagine how you old timers did POR type rally. By the last two stages I was whipped and that transit back to town sucked ass. I skipped the afterparty and went to bed, but my dad/ codriver went. He's new to rally and doesn't have the anal retentiveness of your standard issue navi yet and didn't write down anything.

I'm not a whining keyboard ralliest. I'm a paid event partcipant. I would have liked to have gotten my times before mid day Monday.... that all I'm saying. If you have -0- intention on doing live updates, or gallery pictures or tweets or whatthehellever, that's completely your right, don't have those tabs on your front page, easy.

I'm giving consideration to going to a small regional this fall with my 7 year old Dell and a 4 g card and just start posting stuff to SS and here. It's not rocket science. I would love for someone to type up all the protests etc. for the world to see, so I might just have to be the change I want to see in the world.

Excellent, you had fun, got worn out and that is rally in my book. Scores are nice and for years we either copied them at the end of the event or waited for snail mail. Todays methods are much quicker..generally..and I have no idea what the issues may have been at Ojibwe. RA doesn't typically score regional events and I can't recall anything from our regional events showing up on their website instantly, nor did we get any help from NRS in that department.

You paid to play and have every right to bitch, complain, criticize, comment and make requests or suggestions.

It would likely be very welcomed if you chose to help a regional out with posting updates. I'd bet Alan never got thanked enough for doing that when he did.

Well nobody beat him up either, ya know, just on general principles, so he can't complain.
