Lotus has done a rally Exige (coupe version of the Elise). I did a lot of planning on a rally Elise years ago, so I was excited to see this.

This is the car in tarmac trim, but they claim they also have a gravel set-up for it.

Plus Juan. (the problem is in one case there's thousands of faceless bureaucrats, an ant hill like thing with all this activity, so one can see sensible, reality, logic etc get diffused, and lost. The other case is a few people in volunteer roles, making rules up about things they may---or may not---obviously have a clue about in organisations with no performance standards, no appeal system, no "Open Sunshine" rules, subject to big pressures and loyalities, and friendships influencing the process... "We're worried about ever increasing costs....so we allowed syquential dog boxes only 3 teams in the whole country can afford the initial cost of---because 3 guys said it was "cheaper" for them" )

The more I think about it, the more trailering 6-8 hours is seeming not that bad... 2nd gen RX-7 has suspension basically like a Sierra, if I recall correctly. What do spring rates and shock valvings for gravel end up for those? Miata gearbox and toyletta rear diff should be plenty to get started, RX-8 engine is probably plenty if stock engine is required (people keep saying you can't use more than 240ish hp anyway) and there's room to upgrade components too if by some miracle I were to get the thing done, rally it, and not stuff it into a tree right away.

(might as well use this thread for *something*)
