Now that I have a go..

Im making my list of things I need to finish/replace/purchase for the rally car. Going to shoot for OTR. Realistically thats good goal for me.

So far Ive got:

Suit
Shoes
Roll bar padding
New Belts
Fire Ext
Put together a new spill kit
first aid kit
RA visual package


Should I worry about head sets?

Is it a good idea to register for the RA license ahead of time or should I wait till OTR gets closer? Says its good for one year if i read correctly.

Is Rally-tire no more? I tried looking them up to get a couple more Lassa 1's. Nada on the interwebs.

Ra licence is now good for a calender year, so anytime after January first you are good to buy.

You definitely need a head set, i assume the car all ready has an intercom in it?

Always get any license paperwork done as soon as possible. I'm on the other side of the table most of the time, and I watch the scrambling and stress of doing that at the event, it is never enjoyable.

Grassroots rally. It's what I think about.

I just re-upped my R-A license for Perryville and it says right on it that it expires 12/31/2012 so yeah, wait until January 1st to get your license.

I've got your spill kit and first aid, that would save you $100.00 bucks!

You don't need special shoes, but I would recomend getting some. 425 motorsports has Piloti's on closeout, at $99.

I bet that the Wabbit is louder than the Focus so you may need an intercom. You can use mine if you want. We should test that out one of these days. We should also put the car on my lift and get a "to do" list started.

Yeah. I need to rip the heater/hoses out of the white one if still there and put in the rally rabbit. Im thinking i should really put the new clutch in as well.

Pilotis have a decent sole but I personally prefer non-driving shoes since when you are out of the car you're usually walking on gravel and nothing sucks worse than pointy rocks stabbing into your foot.
I've started wearing indoor soccer cleats on a daily basis. Would probably make a good driving shoe also.

For belts; its hard to beat the G-force FIA belts, inexpensive and 5 years instead of 2...

Do a crawl under the car or walk under with a lift I just crawled under ours and found the rear axle boots are dry rotted and cracked and an exhaust hanger is breaking. I like hiking boots for driving most times. Yeah it's wierd but I find they work better for me. Better grip on the pedals and when I do get out I don't wory about mud or taking a walk into the trees when nature calls.

No, you're smrat with hikey booties.
Here's the killer part: when you HAVE TO push the car someday you might get some grip with decent soles. The little limp-wristed girl boy racer slippers, rotsa ruck pushing. Might make the difference between a finish and a Duh-Nuff aka DNF.

A hundred years ago I remeber reading some British car mag about a visit to Saab facorty and the journalist has been out on some test roads in the Saab rally cars with Stig Blomqvist and good ol' Per Eklund, and then they came back and were going to take out the Saab works rally-cross cars, ya know real rally-cross... he said something to the effect "So then they slipped off their clogs and began lacing up rather ordinary oxfords and I knew they were getting serious then...

Hikey boots are fine if you have lots of room down in the pedal area. In the RX I couldn't manage very well with bootsor boots. My steel toed Pumas (http://www.steel-toe-shoes.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Product_Code=PM642685&Category_Code=Puma - I work in shipyards where steel toes are required but don't like wearing Herman Munster boots) are an adventure.

I used to run with these sweet rental bowling shoes I had. Nice flat hard sole but not too hard that I couldn't get some feel out of the pedals. I am one of the "limp-wristed girl boy racer slippers" wearers and I love them for their narrow profile. Yeah, they don't have a lot of tread for pushing. That's what navigators are for.

I once test drove a beautiful 69 Lotus Elan. Never have I experienced as cramped a pedal box. I could barely maneuver my running shoes in there. And I have size 10.5 feet! I still regret not buying that car.

A good thorough nut and bolt session would be ideal. Bleed your brakes closer to before the rally.

On shoes, I am just throwing this out there. At work we sell knee high rubber boots with a treaded sole that guys wear over regular shoes. I wonder if throwing a pair of those in the car for when you need them would be a good idea. Wear your sissy girly pedal feel whatevers for driving and then slip the boots on when out of the car.

Bingo. That's what I always have in the trunk (they're not very treaded but they keep my feet dry and mud free if needed).
