Henderson just barely tagged a deer that was just barely quick enough to avoid a highspeed encounter... I'm just friggin relieved that we finished a godam rally for a.change. Now to get the car to run properly...

Nice piccie. And that's how they finished. Way turbo-ed to hell Rare-bit, and extreme basic cast iron V4---I think it's still on a little 2 barrel carb..... Better slap a 22mm restrictor on the Rare-bit and add 1100 lbs of lead to it---for evening out the huuuuuuuuuuuge advantage the turbo car has. ![]() John Vanlandingham Sleezattle, WA, USA Vive le Prole-le-ralliat www.rallyrace.net/jvab CALL +1 206 431-9696 Remember! We were doing great trading places with Reed in "Patches" but on stage 6 the car died : (
I was a great weekend over all, even though I'm sick as crap from the rain, snow and whatnot and didn't make it to any post rally misgivings. I sent him some nice inserts last week and he was mounting them up on Monday in which case it seems like yet another Classy class win for JVAB Sooper Bitching Suspenders. I hope! Here's the start of the last running of 17.
![]() Then here's after the deer ended it's life consequently ending our rally about 2 miles short of the finish. We hit the deer less than a mile into the stage and pressed on until the motor got too hot. The sweep crew found the light pod missing an HID and a standard light and broken in 2 pieces. The pod ejected from the car like a fighter aircraft ejection seat when the deer hit it and the deer flew about 15-20 feet I would guess. ![]() |

Wow, Mt Hood Rally still hasn't quite sunk in for me yet. It was an amazing and fun weekend and we did a lot better than I ever expected (but I didn't have any expectations other than my usual of finish, have fun and hopefully do better than the last time out).
Many thanks to the organizers of the event, for the untold hours put in to make this happen so we can play. And to all the volunteers out there working in the crazy and sometimes cold and nasty weather I cannot ever say thank you enough!! This was my third event and while no major changes to the car since Olympus, I did have my good front suspension back on (thanks JVL, it all worked great!!) and a new co-driver so had to figure out how the car was handling (never driven it with the new engine and good front suspension) and find some sort of rhythm. We ended up in a great battle with Charles and Alex, which sadly came to an end when they had a mechanical issue. I think at that point (after 5 of 7 stages) we had 3 seconds separating us. Crazy!! Congrats to them for jumping in a new car and going fast. The whole rally was amazing as far as roads go, but I think I will be having wonderful dreams of 17 Road for quite some time. I finally started pushing hard enough to have a couple of moments, which included blowing the finish of the first run of Fir Mountain (little detour through the field or whatever that was, luckily didn't hit anything) and two wheels in the ditch on the outside of a corner on my second run of 17 Road. We lost the rear brakes at the end of the second run of Fir Mountain (banjo bolt came loose and lost all the brake fluid) plus snowing and starting to get dark so last run through 17 Road wasn't quite what I wanted but we were able to keep it on the road and not bleed too much time (20 seconds slower than my best run). Other than that, no major drama!! Lots of people to thank! Joel did a great job on the notes, even if he did look confused when I kept making him sit on the passenger side of the Corolla. I guess the car doesn't hate you after all!! Quinn did a great job helping me get everything packed up, he set up service, worked on the car in some crappy weather and basically did all the dirty work to make things happen. Big thanks to him!! Alex, Kyle, Jason, JJ at PSI for all the fab work and pretty much helping with anything else I needed to get ready. I have made a lot of changes to the car, but it is also the same basic car underneath that Blake, Joel and a whole lot of other people put time into. Thanks to them as well, she is sturdy and goes well! Thank you to Brian and Rebecca for food, accommodations, welder and pretty much willing to help with anything else. Rally is such an awesome group of people, that is definitely the best part. John Reed John Reed Racing www.johnreedracing.com johnreedracing@gmail.com Edited 1 time(s).
