I know we don't care much for GRC

but another crash on the gap jump at SEMA. This time David Binks. I like the idea of the jump, but maybe a tunnel like is done at the ROC is in order.

and the whole deal in 7 parts

Not as big but Jimmy Keeney ALSO crashed over the jump and broke at least one vertebrae there also.

I'm curious, anyone have an average DNF percentage number for any of the rally series?

And this is exactly why I don't care for the GRC. The gap jump is stupid. It's only interesting if someone crashes, which I guess is what they're going for. What would be way more interesting and entertaining is if they just let the cars race wheel to wheel with each other minus the the stupid joker lap and gap jump. But I guess they'll just keep destroying cars and injuring drivers with the gap jump until somebody is killed.

Gap jumps are stupid.

In skiing,

In biking,

In motorsport,

Stupid.

Ask the kid with the femur sticking out of his leg after missing the gap... Stupid.

I was there for that... it looked spectacular in person too. The final on Tuesday was a 10 car field, and at moments had a bit of the euro rallycross quality to it with more door banging and piling up in the first corner. That was fun. Otherwise, pretty dull after a while.

You know, watching anybody else race gets boring after a while.

Half true.

the smoother the surface, the harder the surface, the uglier the venue, the stupider the other speccies, the more that is true.

Driving cars hooning in a parking lot is a lot like wanking:
It may be fun but I don't want to sit for hours watching other guys doing it.

Racing is (almost) always more fun than watching racing, and the exceptions are when guys ball it up and/or burst into flames, but at that point it's "crashing" and "burning" and not "racing" anymore.

Nope, it's awesome in person. Part of the problem is the track. New Hampshire was bitchin', sweet track, lots of daring manevours/passing, no nastynasty crashes (Block got kinda screwed at one point).

Seriously though, NEW HAMPSHIRE WAS AWESOME. I'd go to a whole bunch more if they had the track more often like that. Two moments that stick in my mind, Dave Mirra with a flat/broken rear suspension (I forget) doing mach chicken onto the oval's straight and BARELY making the tabletop jump without smashing into the wall = intense. He was GOING for it, made me feel like a kid again I was jumping up and down and hollering so much grinning smiley

And then Tanner (I think) pulled a pass around Binks after one of them took the joker and they were side by side going over a little kicker jump through the gap of the gap jump.

SO GOOD. I'd watch that everyday.

I meant like an 8 year old vs a 12 year old. At Kananaskis last night, John Hall pulled my seat out from under me and I fell, plate of food and all. I sat on the ground where I landed and ate my strudel for the next minute to make a point. smiling bouncing smiley

If somebody wants to bash the crap out of 600hp cars for MY entertainment, break their backs for MY ENTERTAINMENT (you know how many people I've saw break their backs snowmobiling and dirtbiking)? All the more power to them. I get it, they don't want me. But I'll still watch!
