I just heard via e-mail this morning that IMSA is going to buy R-A and the professional series will be known as the AMCS American Monte Carlo Series. The owners wish to bring rally to a fan participation level concurrent with that of professional road racing in the United States.

I just hope the organizers do what is best for the competitors and the sport.

I'll repost what I posted on the other site...

Wait, what?? What other site?? I had always assumed that by the "other site" those here were referring to SS but I haven't seen mention of it there (unless it is buried in some thread I'm not paying attention to). Usually I'm the one who is accused of being the turd in the punchbowl on these things and I'd like to see who took my place! grinning smiley

How come NRS can run in the green and RA cant?

I guess that's a decent question. While I obviously don't know their budget details, I think it comes down to a very different structure:

- No employees. Everyone involved has a "real job" that they go to each day that isn't rally. For example, I sell construction supplies.
- No motorhome to own or drive around. We use our personal vehicles.
- No satellite truck to own or drive around. We use our own cell phone's data plans and borrow connectivity from the headquarters where we set up.
- No expensive video equipment. (Although, for full disclosure, I did buy a couple of USB web cameras, we used them for live streaming at Black River Stages, and that set me back $200)
- No expensive bandwidth for streaming. When I stream, it goes through Ustream.tv, and there's an ad, and it's SD not HD, but hey, it's free.
- No hired media people / reporters.
- No marketing company. RA doesn't have one currently, that I know of, but I can only imagine that having companies like Wasserman Group was pricey.
- Very little flying people around. Like, I went out to SEMA a few weeks ago... on points from my credit card. That's my whole "rally flying budget" for the year.
- We also benefit from a very large pool of events when it comes to insurance. Our policy is grouped in with all the other NASA road racing events, so there's what, 150 events? Maybe 200? Compared to 18 events that's much much larger.

Cheers,
Anders

So, Anders is going to buy RA for ten dollars?

Caswell already offered double what Fogg paid for it and was turned down.

Is that a verifable fact?

Either that movie deal made him a lot more money than I thought or he offered $2 for RA...

Do we know what that price was? In speaking with the Martelli Bros. they would be interested if the price was right but thought that the price would be out of their league...

Yeah, Fogg knew that Caswell's credit card was over the limit and didn't wish to have to cut up the card in front of Caswell.

I would buy Rally America cancel all future events citing safety concerns, sell the rights to a game company, launch an all new rally game, make money and save rally. At that point we could all afford to go rally, have cleaner hands and never have to leave the basement that was converted to a man cave because you freed up all that money you should have spent on the hottest final drive available.
