I think the recent political environment has made you go a bit cookoo.....
...
if said car is a luxury item (i.e. you drive an STI to work at a $15hr job as your only car rather than something practical) then selling it might make sense both short term and long term...

call me cookoo and then agree with me? awesome.

so it looks like:
RA = STI and Foodstamps

it could look like:
Anders = old suby with open trailer, free beer, and umbrella girls with Trampstamps

Listen up kids, the following are a few quick and easy life lessons:

-the square peg does not fit into the round hole.
-always shake it twice.
-you can not climb out of a pit by digging it deeper.
-when in debt you stop spending. you do not borrow more money.
-if a business is loosing money it doesnt need more investors or capitol. it needs to cut costs.

i bet if RA sold the RV they could afford the $200 per entrant for the next 3 years. they would save more $$ by not fueling the RV.

it's time to liquidate assets, not raise prices.

if you have the right tools you can make the square peg round

After reading the Bill Fogg facebook thing, I think I can summarize RA's new strategy:

How about this RA, let me opt out of the "Media" package at a RA National/Regional. Why the fuck should I subsidise those pointy enders.

I am a bit of a newb still, so I don't know a lot of the finer details of the politics of rally but this is my take on the outside looking in.

I understand the need to make Rally America the company financially stable for it to survive, because without that (or someone wanting to just donate cash to the cause), it will quickly be gone. But I don't really agree with the logic of how they want to achieve this.

The question we have to honestly ask is, if you had unlimited resources to pour at rally here in the USA, would it take off like they are dreaming? I honestly don't think so. WRC doesn't even bring their road show to the USA for whatever reasons, and I am guessing they would if enough people and powers that be were begging for it, and the ROI in terms of advertising made sense. For whatever reason, it just hasn't caught on mainstream in the USA. F1 is trying, but even it is struggling compared to other sports/racing.

So in the end we are proposing taxing everyone (and in terms of % of total operating budget, the regional guys most of all) to try and fund taking this entity "Rally America" to the next level but what awaits us at the next level? I know as a regional guy, there is nothing that awaits me at the next level other than having poured a bunch of money I don't have toward a cause championed by those with more money than I will ever likely have (needing national level attention and exposure so they can get some of their money back).

My opinion is whatever sanctioning body is going to run the show needs to focus on GROWING the regional level guys. Keep the costs as low as possible on all fronts, and you will see more cars out. This will bring more spectators out, who will then talk about it to more of their friends. It may never be massive, but it will be growing and healthy. Keep the events in the black, make sure there is enough to cover costs and expenses and feed our volunteers well at the end. These are the things that I don't mind paying for when I send my check in.

Looks at PowerBall tickets: Nope, not going to be buying Rally America, didn't even win $4.

Why does this whole thing remind me of a monkey fucking a football?

I know! But no joke, the first two numbers on my first line of the easy-pick were the first two numbers of the results. I was getting close to going crazy thinking I might have won... and then the 3rd number was totally off. But at least my highest number was 39 when the highest winning number was 29? Still no matches though to get some money back.

Just saw this on facebook from the Olympus Rally page:

"Olympus Rally would like to thank Rally America for the past years of partnership, For 2013 Olympus had decided to go another direction and won't be a part of there 2013 schedule. Little Creek Casino will be our headquarters and Green Diamond has agreed to letting us rally on the same great roads that we used last year, just not so dusty as we will be in the spring of 2013,Stay tuned for more info coming soon!"

Be still my dog of war. I understand your pain. We've all lost some event we love. But we do it my way! We do it my way. Fear is our ally. The Olympus will be ours. Then you shall have your revenge. There has been too much violence. Too much pain. But I have an honorable compromise. Just walk away. Give me your event, the cars, the race, and the whole rally, and I'll spare your lives. Just walk away and we'll give you a safe passageway in the wastelands. Just walk away and there will be an end to the horror.

I await your answer. You have a full day to decide.

No, I don't agree with you at all on this as far as I can tell.

it's time to liquidate assets, not raise prices.

Selling fixed assets to finance competitor subsidies is even worse a business model than pricing your customers away.... Selling the RV to finance an alternative investment may be a different story.

While selling the RV may in fact free up some cash, it almost certainly will not generate sustainable revenue when used to subsidize competitors/customers. Selling the RV may have a positive effect in reducing operating costs but doing some simple math suggests the savings are minimal at best (maybe $2000 per event max savings) and that is assuming that the RV serves no significant purpose and that not bringing it incurs no additional costs to make up for its absence (additional hotel rooms, additional vehicles driven, additional plane tickets, additional tents, additional generators, etc etc...). Then again, if the operating costs are the problem, you can simply leave the RV parked at home.

My suspicion is that the RV provides significant utility --likely exceeding the marginal operating costs and it is unlikely that selling it would be a positive move for RA.
