And many more that can't be mentioned . . . "Talk about drugs. Driving a car like that, going that fast, it’s like all the drugs at once." - Tommy Byrne "Now, Pinky, if by any chance you are captured during this mission, remember you are Gunther Heindriksen from Appenzell. Johnny Pineapple? Sounds Hawaiian. What's the story behind that one? It is useless for the sheep to pass resolutions in favour of vegetarianism, while the wolf remains of a different opinion. William Ralph Inge TANSTAAFL |

My Mom's side of the family all grew up in the wild jungles of Panama about 10 miles from the Columbia border. and both my brother and sister were born in Panama...hence the in-house name Juan Ricardo since Spanish was allegedly my original language. When I was about ready to start Kindergarten my Mom's only brother came up from Panama to live with us and "pick up English" for a year before joining the US Army. So for a year rather than me going to Kindergarten, I ran around Corpus Christi Texas which Alfredo aka "Uncle Freddy" and learned a lot about looking at life from a different perspective than your average kid in the 50s. He's tell me stories about 2 week camping trips in the foothills of the Darien Gap armed with a big knife, a .22 and a pancho (it IS a tropical rain forest), about hearing Jaguars, working hard to buy a Thompson re-chambered to .22 (For dinner you listen to the sounds in the trees, and Brr-rrrr-rrrrrap bap bap! 20 monkeys! ther's your dinner!). Evidently the name Pineapple is an affectionate name relatively common In Panama. Freddy himself went by that when he met his future wife at a dance in DC in 1960. She was from West Virginia and when she said her name was Beaulah Mae Cannaberry he said (he'd picked up a Texas twang on top of his Spanish accent) "well, hell! If your name is Beaulah Mae Cannaberry, then my name must be Johnny Can-of-Pineapples. Through their 2 marriages he was never Freddy, always Johnny... Decades later you guys with any memory cells might recall that our former buddy, and favorite, our own CIA agent (on the unofficial payroll since the 50s--on the official payroll since around 1967) in the Panamanian Presidency was named Manuel "Pineappleface" Noriega..Our man till he got uppity and became the only person in history to have been indicted in a US Court for actions alleged to have happened soley in another country--where the writ of US law does not extend---and only time the US military has invaded an ally and killed hundreds of that allied country's citizens to arrest a single person...idicted for drug charges--but held as a "Prisoner-of-war".. I've always loved you..... now put on that maids outfit....... Damn, wrong forum again, sorry. Anyway, it's been interesting to watch all the drama unfold. I've been around the rally world since 99 and all the "New" developments, seem all to familiar to me. Enter rich guy with big pile of cash and big ideas...... two years later, gone without a trace. On one hand, I feel bad hating on a guy trying to improve a sport we all obviously love but shake my head wondering WTF they're thinking. Not 2 months ago, the RA fan bois had a pretty unified front but lately, the armor seems to be washing away. In reality, I think OBI Wa....... NASA is our only hope JVL, I've enjoyed your posts over the years, you've made me laugh many times. |

Just read most of the comments over on juniors FB page. What's that saying, Insanity, doing the same thing and expecting different results (well, not exactly the same thing, they are increasing the costs to the competitors). How many times has Jens said it's not a spectator sport. It's a place for us hobbiests to enjoy what we enjoy doing with cars.

So they only went up $80 for both regionals and no notes. Thats not to bad I guess. I hate to see any increase but it sounded like we were going to have to shell $350 or better.
