For the same product (notes both years), the increase was 85% give or take for a single rally. For a dual regional entry, about 35%. I don't know if there was a $200 credit (or any credit) last year if you were able to go without notes. I know that 2011 did NOT have the no-notes/regional option. Put things on equal footing when doing your cost valuations! ![]() |

Last year, would have been 600 plus 165 for Notes. Notes were not included in the 600.

Sorry guys, this thing is way too rich for my budget. I ain't paying $2K entry for an RA Rally. I can get a lot more bang for buck staying here in the CRS. Cheers M.Samli Phoenix AZ Gaylant VR4 EVO III GSR (Stolen) Rallies are no place for traitors |

$2070 is bad but im only running the 2 regionals. Let the national guys pay what they want for the big ROI they will get. Im just glad I dont have to pay $350 or more for the national guys to get some video. $135 more sucks but not as bad as I thought!

Hi Guys,
Here's my 2 cents on at least a couple of the points in the thread (Sponsorship & How to keep the series going). I've thought about this a lot over the years as I've made a significant financial investment/loan in the sport and have wanted to understand where my money was going. First, I mentioned this years ago to someone in rally. As an outsider I'll say to me it appears as though the events have more of an emphasis on the "fun side of rally". This is obviously important to get an audience and a huge part of the rally experience but there's a separate and more interesting (at least to me and I'm sure many others) technical side of things. I understand the expose part of the rally is meant to highlight this but it seems more should be done here. If RA would have gone after every big and small name in the auto business to participate, they could collectively cover the cost of the events lowering or eliminating the entry fees and allowing for a productive venue not only for fun but to share in innovation from the design side of things. Maybe this had been tried on much bigger scale but that doesn't mean it couldn't work for rally as well and it seems really obvious. This does require a significant interest by RA in the technical expertise of the people who create the cars and not just an interest in the people who drive them and bring the crowds in (chump change compared to what could happen if new innovation came from someone who developed X to optimize Y etc.). Second (and on the same line as my first point), The money spent by sponsors currently seems to go after their interest in selling things which is obvious and the most simple form of business. In my line of work technology, innovation and the opportunity for uniqueness rule where money goes. I've heard and read some really cool ideas from you guys that could translate to broader commercial benefits by someone with a good eye or ear for how they could modify for production use. I hope you all figure it out and that the sport can continue and even grow in the future. There are some really smart and talented people in this community. Edited 1 time(s). Rea more, call, discuss, cause I hear people correctly saying maybe this is the time to think of a re-start or re-boot and what we could do different. Like lower spec events encourage more simple builds less foofery. John Vanlandingham Sleezattle, WA, USA Vive le Prole-le-ralliat www.rallyrace.net/jvab CALL +1 206 431-9696 Remember! Being less shit-stirrey... actually, lemme bore some of you all with where I'm coming from. First off, hi, this is me, a technical injurneer-type with fab ability who's been doing roadracing shit for 10 years. I have experience building cars (albeit not for rally) and an interest in going rallying. I've read the rules thoroughly, have been reading here a lot (and contributing on stuff I know about but whatever) and I'm willing to bet that I could get a Gr2 car built for LSPR 2013. A nice simple, basically good Gr2 car with reasonably good suspension, good ratios, enough toarks, nothing whizzbang and unreliable, etc. I'm building a roadrace car instead. It may be that rallying would be the greatest experience evar... and it's probably just that I'm fucked by being in the midwest... but unless I'm willing to spend 8-10 hours trailering each way, there's one or two events a year. All of that, plus entry fees, plus consumables... what am I looking to budget per weekend, 5k? I mean I can probably do that for two events per year... or I can come up with a reliable roadrace car and do, easily, with no trailer distance longer than 2 hours, do 15 roadrace events a year. I'm not going to guess which is more fun, but if the way to get good at something is by doing it, that's going to be a bunch of bent metal for years trying to rally. Is it the nature of the country that turns rallying into a trailering championship unless you're on the coasts, or is this something that got fucked up over the years with events dying out? Genuine question. |

The midwest isnt a bad place to be for rally, but the midwest is a big place so where you are matters. For me in 2013 it looks like I'm going to be within 8 hours of 7 events, with the majority of those being less than 5 hours away. Once I'm done building my car I plan to do 3-4 of those. Google tells me that waukesha is 6 hours from Magnum Opus, 6 hours from LSPR, probably around 6 hours to a possible new event in the UP for next year, 6.5 from the nemadjis, 7 to perryville, 7.75 to 100AW, 7.75 to Sno Drift, and 8 hours to Ojibwe. Thats 9 events within 8 hours of you. Many people would be quite jelous to have so many events to choose from within an easy day's tow, but its up to you to decide if you're up for that or not. I would guess that $5k per event is more than what 75% of teams spend, but thats just a guess and what you spend in a weekend has a lot to do with your personal tastes. Also, if you build it right, a rally car can certainly be a lot of fun on a track. So why not build it for rally and use it for both? Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 12/01/2012 11:29PM by Carl S. |

I'm confused...
I see $1850 for National, $900 for both regionals. Last year was $765 for both regionals with notes. So an increase of $135 for dual regional. Add a bit for credit card payment. I don't think single day or late entries exist so I'm going to ignore those numbers. I'm sure it won't be perilous. Grant Hughes |

Yerp. I can do the whole CRC for ~$18000 (not including any contingency money, which I could expect a little bit of). That has 4 cross country tows involved, and race fuel @ $850/barrel (which I'd only be paying US pricing for). Of course, that doesn't include damaging the car, but it does factor in tires. It also doesn't factor in I'd save a ton of cash (to the tune of a couple grand) by leaving the rig/car out east between Baie and Defi, which Eric has offered to store the car. Rallying is as cheap or expensive as you want it to be. I could do all 6 regionals in Western Canada for ~$9k. That would involve 3 2000+km tows, smallest tow there and back being 800kms. And I hate to be "that guy", but 6 events at $9k is pretty friekin good bang for the buck compared to any other hobby. People spend that kind of cash snowmobiling/quading in a year. Of course, I literally can NOT afford to do the RA nationals now. Per event, they are $1k nationally more expensive than Canada, and they just added an additional event to their calendar. An extra $7k (on top of the additional tow fuel) makes it unpossible for myself in the foreseeable future. If I lived out east, I could probably swing it. |
