Tall Pines bound...
November 21, 2012 11:05PM
Just have to load up tomorrow then we're off. It's going to be a blast! 23(?) 2WD entries, almost half the field! It's our last chance to compete for OA 2WD... I think next year we're 3WD or something :-)

The only catch is if you do well, you just boost their argument. Good luck and kick ass!

Mission accomplished!
Stories and pictures to come... maybe some video, but Ferd only got a few stages this time out.
We were getting our asses kicked until the R2 broke, then the tough, reliable, over powered G5 Nissan took over :-)

We went to bed last night thinking we had 10th OA, and teh subsequent seed 4 that brings... thsi mnorning we found out we'd been relegated to 11th... must have been a timing error that pushed someone else above us in teh scoring. Mason Moyle beat us by just under 4 seconds, so I'm told, I haven't looked at the results yet!

Really tired and in need of some family time...

Congrats Martin and Ferd! Well done! I really look forward to watching your vids, especially A1. I have no idea how you guys went so fast on those stages. We went out on gravels and I was fighting to get the car braking and turned in on the ice, I have no idea how you guys go so fast.

It looks like the diff broke for us on Egan Creek, zero diff preload and the half shafts appear to be okay. I think I'll burn the Swift down, I'm so fucking fed up with this car right now.

Alexei,
Don't loose the faith, you'll build reliability...
We were on gravels too for the first stages, A1 was the scariest stage I have ever driven, and I think it was the slowest I have ever driven that stage! As a comparision, when we re-ran it as A3 with A034's we were 53 seconds quicker... that felt good :-)

Yeah, gravel tires on ice are scarey, especially in variable conditions where the ice is often over a blind crest when you are turning into a corner...

We actually only used the A034's for stages A3 and A4, then we switched back to gravels for the remainder of the event. Most chose to use A034's later (including all of the top runners) for Eagen Creek and Lower and Middle Old Hastings... most also got flats, which was part of our strategy, avoid flats! We had none the entire event, in fact, apart from the heater fan falling out we had a trouble free run, which is why we won, not because we were blazingliy fast! At night on the ice of the fast parts of Eagen Creek things were a little tense, but the conditions were consistant, so it was much easier to judge how hard you could push, but 140/160kmph was pretty sketchey at times :-)
