I believe it was during that siesta that the organizers were busy spreading the extra fine silt on the night stage roads. Those sneaky devils. ![]() |

RALLY AMERICA, USAC TEAM FOR 2013 NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP Friday, December 21, 2012 For Immediate Release Contact: Dick Jordan, USAC Contact: Ananda Siverts, Rally America, Inc. Email: ananda@rally-america.com Office: (206) 302-8289 Website: www.rally-america.com RALLY AMERICA, USAC TEAM FOR 2013 NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP Williston, VT (December 21, 2012) -- Rally America, Inc. and USAC will partner in 2013 to present the Rally America National Championship, a seven- event series spanning the country between January and October. The one-year agreement announced today expands USAC’s diverse calendar of motorsports entities which has included various sanctioning partnerships. Since its inception in 2004 Rally America has been considered the premiere rally sanctioning body in the United States. For the 2013 season Rally America members will hold both a Rally America license and a USAC membership receiving many new benefits of inclusion in one of America’s oldest racing clubs. USAC debuted in 1956 and in its 57 seasons of competition it has sanctioned nearly every form of motorsports imaginable. The 1956 USAC calendar alone reflected its diversity, including the Mobilgas Economy Run, The Great American Mountain Rallye, the Nassau Race Cup and the Sebring 12-hour endurance run. Subsequent off-oval operations included a 1958 mileage rally, numerous years of sanction with the Pikes Peak Hill Climb, seven races comprising the 2000 Grand- Am Championship and International Rally events from 2002-2006. A member of the Automobile Competition Committee for the United States (ACCUS) and 42-year sanction of the Indianapolis 500 Mile Race, similar USAC associations have included Formula One, MotoGP and most recently the Traxxas TORC Off-Road Championship. “Obviously we look forward to this partnership in 2013 as we work together with Rally America to produce America’s top-level rally championship,†says USAC president/CEO Kevin Miller. “We’re excited to be working with Kevin Miller and his team at USAC for the upcoming season,†adds Rally America president and owner Bill Fogg. “This is a great opportunity to continue our plans for growing the sport of rally racing in America. USAC has several ways to assist us by opening doors in media, sponsorship and new cross over participation by other USAC members not to mention advising in the area of event promotion. I am certain Rally America and USAC will find many new ways to engage global rally racing fans as the two groups begin working more closely in the coming months.†About Rally America: Based in Williston, VT, Rally America, Inc. sanctions the Rally America National Championship which consists of at least seven national-level events located at a variety of venues across the country, from Portland, Oregon to Newry, Maine. Top competitors in the Rally America National Championship reach speeds of well over 100 mph driving highly modified street cars such as Mitsubishi Evolutions, Subaru WRX STI’s, Ford Fiestas and Scion XD’s on natural-terrain courses consisting of gravel, dirt, ice or snow. Was it something that was seen coming? Is USAC our savior or just another middleman? Will this mean more umbrella girls? Will there be bacon? Zap zap my ass... Edited 1 time(s). Sounds like a continuation of RA's failing business model. Focus on the curb appeal aspects, neglect the foundation that actually gives you a product to market. I wouldn't hold my breath for any bacon girls. Tim. |

What you should be asking is: Since RA is getting insurance from USAC, you would (essentially) anticipate the event costs to be on par between a RA regional and a standalone USAC regional, no? The only difference would be the value-add that RA brings to the table, right? Think about it from a pure economics model. I'm *sure* that the Olympus folks have a much cheaper-to-customer rate than the RA-to-customer rate as there is significantly less mark up. What the actual fees are compared to NASA I don't know. Only the Olympus folks have all of the information (RA v. NASA v. USAC direct). It will be interesting to see how the pricing models work for the rest of the year, for sure! |

I just see RA using USAC for insurance is just another way to put more money into RAs pocket. If I'm now buying insurance at a cheaper rate but my prices don't change, I see that as keeping more for themselves rather then passing it on. The true cost should be reflected when Olympus puts out their entry costs. I'm sure RA sees this as another patch on their sinking boat, maybe once they figure out that this shouldn't be about making a profitable business but about the love of the sport, they could make RA live.
But I'm doubting that will ever happen. "Rally racing makes a heroin addiction look like a vague craving for something salty" |

Who can say. The cost of rolled into the general "Sanction fee" which included flying out a mini-bus worth of people to attend every event and fill roles which for decades were filled out of the local volunteer pool. And then there were rental car costs, motel, food for the whole platoon of RA people, gas, liquor, for all we know hooochie-kootchie girls, bail, etc. That amount of extra added expense is where I beleive serious cost savings can occur,,,If its a "National Champignonskit event, we used to have "The National Series Steward" fly out and that was often it... Registration, scrutineering, Stewards, Chief of controls, scoring, web updates, Protest Comittee, Sweep, etc all the things needed to run a fun, safe rally exist locally.. Seems only good if deadwood is trimmed away.. There is a war on after all. John Vanlandingham Sleezattle, WA, USA Vive le Prole-le-ralliat www.rallyrace.net/jvab CALL +1 206 431-9696 Remember! What if the Driver and Co-Driver are the service crew. Do you have to cough up the $10.00 to USAC to work on your car?
I ask only because we've only had a service crew once in 4 years. Another Important Message From... Sean Gallagher 2WD...Less Traction More Action! |

I believe that the answer is no. USAC membership and insurance should come with your competition license. alan |
