Come all you, just be happy someone is willing to do all the hard work to have an event on any date and be even more happy someone else is willing to sell them the insurance to run said event. If you are not willing to show up to their organizing meetings and participate in the organizing, make polite suggestions but leave it to them to do the best they can.
As a competitor it is not your problem who owns the rules etc. worry about things that matter to your life and let the organizer worry about their stuff. As to notes - 1st be happy there is an event then worry about the exact form of the event. I think everyone knows the current generation likes to prerun so they will keep that in mind as they work to attract the maximum number of entrants. I personally liked PNW timing and think running the event on FIA rules for the event running is fine. It is car classes that becomes an issue under FIA as we do not have the same cars... again the organizers will remember this as they work to attract the maximum number of entries. In the long run reality always wins. |

We'll have the 'normal' classes we've always had. There will be a place for RA OL cars. We intend for this to be the most awesome regional ever. G5 will be there (even Canadian cars) and no novice persecution other than a school. If the car is deemed safe to run it'll get to run.
Not sure on the notes thing. That has been discussed as well as a Ron Barker route book with recce. We gotta do the route book anyway and notes just add to the cost. More stuff to be worked out as we go. Have faith, this is one of the best group of organizers around. I'm pretty sure the entry will be under $1000. Won't be over a $1000 the last I heard. |

Then I'm in, as long as I get to recce (or NFP organizer notes) ![]() I don't think anyone is hating on the Olympus organizers. I've known a few of the people doing it for a long time. I'm sure it'll be great! |

![]() ![]() But seriously... the PNW timing system, that we call the "Modified FIA" timing system, that the Canadians call "the timing system"... I love it. We all use it over here and I think it's the best. ![]() Anders Grassroots rally. It's what I think about. |

Thanks for the updates, Gene! People are naturally concerned about any change. I personally have a ton of faith in this organizing committee and am not concerned. One thought on notes/routebook - depending on where you go with notes/recce. One possibility is to provide routebook for transits only, and maybe have Pat Richard (or Gibault's... or someone) - write notes. Do not do routebook for the stages. This eliminates some of the work (mostly for Ron, right?) of writing routebook for new stages. If you just allow two pass recce (given that is possible) then it seems like that would be the lowest cost option (Competitors write their own stage notes and the organizers provide routebook for transit only). I realize that this may not be popular or possible with some teams who have never recce'd. Anyway- whatever you guys choose - routebook only, 2-pass recce, provided notes... we'll be there. Thanks, Doug |

You stinker. I believe the Canajian (and that's how I was told to say it---whasis name from Calgary you can apologize for accusing me of slandering "Canada" any time you grow a pair.) timing system is a bit different than what we used out here from 1986 to whenever the simple minded drive for "uniformity" triumphed.... cause i had only used "the modified FIA" till I was out east in the 90s and was cornfused with SCCA--and the incredibly stupid 1/100s----and then did some Quebec and Ontario Nationals and was semi-baffled... Having taught dozens of co-drivers---usually at home with beer to help loosen their minds, with reviews on the way to SS1---I really like "our" old modified FIA---just gotta do regroups as people drop out. The PNW Timing System (identified under that name in the supps and used primarily in WA) is plain old FIA timing. ORG have used the Canadian timing system, but I don't recall a WA rally using it (at least in the time that I have been competing/organizing). I like it the best as well, but it is also the most complicated. alan |

Speaking as one of the core organizers for Olympus, I just want to point out that, aside from what has been posted on the Olympus website and Facebook page (the location, the HQ, the date and the sanctioning body), nothing has been decided. Aside from those items, everything else is speculation.
At this time, we are all trying to get through the holidays and after that we will start meeting to hammer out the details of the rally. Don't expect any more solid info until after the holidays. alan perry olympus rally |

I'll be working it. I was hoping to run it, but my god-daughter's wedding is the evening of the 21st and the location she's chosen is in BFE. Her mother, brother and I are gonna have a hell of a time getting from the wedding to the rally. We'll do it, but we'll be tired and cranky |
