Olumpus Rally weill be sanctioned and insured by USAC in 2013. USAC is looking to get involved with rally in the US and is starting with Olympus. I can say that RA, NRS and SCCA logbooks will be accepted with their safety rules. RA license will be accepted or a USAC license will be required. USAC also has some sort of a one event licens I know nothing about right this minute.

Insurance is 'full coverage' with medical and what not. Pricing is good but I'm not comfortable discussing it . It will allow Olympus to keep a premium event at a very reasonable price.
Right now I've heard that RA license will be accepted or maybe its more a case of USAC license being waived this first year. Details are just being resolved at this time so don't expect massive info before next week at least. Initially it seems as a time to step back and reset some of the focus to a more regional approach. I guess we may still have a bit of the wild frontier in us out here. |

I've heard, and would like some sort of confirmation that for crew to enter the hot pits, it requires a license. You can buy a license for one event, but after that, you must buy a full license. I would say the closest thing we have to the hot pits in rallying is the fuel depot. And even then, that is done in a service zone. Is there an online rule book to peruse?

Their website points you to NASA rules and RA rules, and breaks down their classes as which of NA/RA's classes fits into what.
Its basically, if I recall correctly, Open, Open lite, 2wd, and production... Welcome to the cult of JVL drink the koolaid or be banned. |

Well...my vote was for NRS, nothing against USAC. It isn't my event but Steve McQuaid is my friend (over 30 years and still working) so I support his decision.
Do we need a 3rd sanctioning body? Hell no. Two are confusing enough for competitors and organizers. I doubt we'll have 3 for long though. I suspect RA will implode before 1/2 season. There should be no way organizers and competitors scrape by hoping for affordable entry fees and break even events just to put several hundred thousand dollars into Foggs pocket. The sport really owes him nothing. USAC is well established and while not a rally oriented organization, they are well versed in motorsports. They have an interest in rally apparently, and are interested in the RallyCross programs, members of ACCUS and there by associated with FIA (not saying that is good or bad...) While many details are to be worked out, Olympus will pretty much look, to competitors, the same as always and affordable for regional teams. Scoring and competition will be the standard we are used to, hopefully the internet scoring will be better, scrutineering will be the same friendly, smiling faces (depending on my mood ![]() I doubt anyone will notice any significant differences. The June date, while close to Idaho, opens up the number of roads we have to use, lessens any storm water influences and will be well before the normal fire season. Should be nothing but plusses for the local rally community. The bigger question should be why the community would think it is ok to spend $20 to 30,000 more per event for RA sanctions with all the baggage and controversy than going NRS or USAC or self insured. |

At this time, the plan is to run to Rally America rules. Even though I still work on the Rally America rule book, this wasn't my idea. I need to go through the book and identify and solve the problems with this approach.
As far as whether we need another sanction body, remember that there have been more than just NRS and RA/SCCA for a while. Rally New York still does his own thing. So did Laughlin. alan |

I would imagine the largest stumbling block would be that little section just inside the cover, the one that takes up Page ii. Anders Grassroots rally. It's what I think about. |

Not specifically rally, no. Just a USAC rules book. It is useless for the sheep to pass resolutions in favour of vegetarianism, while the wolf remains of a different opinion. William Ralph Inge TANSTAAFL |
