Part of my deal with the numbers confusion is that my first event was going to be a low key, no points, rally sprint. So a lot of the administrative stuff wasn't going to be bothered with. Consequently, I don't know what the normal process would be.

Tim.

Nothing.
I haven't run with an odometer in 4 years.
One of the advantages / disadvantages of running with notes.

Just sayin'... Bill Holmes and myself have won a Shitload of rallies Overall with out an odometer.

What's the purpose of a rally computer?

To give you an electrical repair the morning of the event, raise blood pressure, and incite panic in the crew!

Really, it's a precise odometer; a precise clock; a precise speedometer; a calculator of time, speed, and distance; as well as other permutations of those. Note I didn't say accurate, they're only as accurate as the correction factors entered into the device as calculated on a given distance.

Oh, the PURPOSE? To keep you on time and not lost by comparing your numbers with ones provided in the rally route book.

The advent of the internet must have made it easier to get info but back when I started a couple questions came up...

Who is in charge of ______ ? Who is next in charge? At Olympus '83 we had perhaps the rudest SOB scrutineer I have ever met (except for that FIA asshole in '88). Would have been nice to understand the chain of command.

What are supps and drivers bullteins? Where do I find those?

Another back in the day thing was a list available of SCCA members and contact info. Might be nice if there was a similar list now. Could be a voluntary sign-up of people to contact regarding tech, co-driving, volunteering, driving etc.

If I roll my car, but push it over the finish, does the stage count as completed? Or does it have to be under its own power/momentum?

You really think Timmy was baiting? Like trying to get somebody here to say something like But Timmy, that would mean your car was finished and actually ran, and that you entered an event and could drive it poorly enough to ROLL....an extremely unlikely serious of improbable events"

Really Andrew, you think he was looking for a response like that?
Cause I don't think any shits are given enough to waste the time...

Item number 1 on your list should be "Attend at least 2 rallies before attempting to enter your first one. One to spectate, just hang around. The other to crew for a team". Then, read thru the rule book(s), AGAIN.

Re: First timers: inspire me!

Actually, its a semi serious question, as an Olympus video I watched mentioned someone going over the finish backwards (mid spin/crash/something)

And then there was that Indy or Kart or F1 guy who pushed his car over the line, but wasn't allowed to finish...

So its an amusing question based on plausible/possible scenarios. Written with the general "If I..." just like most of the others. So really, calling it not serious or being John is the troll.

So, with that in mind, what is the answer? Are you allowed to push a car over to get a time - or does it need to be under it's own power?

Cars have been towed over the finish. I would guess that as long as it crosses the line, you are good, but you still have to get out of the control...
