Corey, Scott, good idea, I've added some for the Novice School.

It's very difficult to get people properly informed before the event. I should do a poll at the NCO: "Who has read the entire rule book?" I bet it's really low. So, even though this exact thread is about getting more info online, I know it still has to be consumed by the person needing it, and existing resources we have out there don't currently have a 100% record at being consumed.

Anders

Plus, we have some data in NRS land that people that do the NCOs at their first events will stay in rally longer and do more events. So I would say that having the NCOs is a VERY positive experience.

Anders - care to update and share that data? I know that we were looking at it last year...

Is that because of the format of the information? People tend to ask questions and need direct answers. If you're not thinking of the question when you read that information in a rule book, it might not register. Depending on the question, it might not be obvious from a table of contents where the answer is.

I've read the rule book many times, but I've also read RA's and CARS' rule books. In some places, they are different. Which one said what? At this point, beats me. When I have had a specific question, I've had to search for keywords. That's one solution, if that is where the information actually is.

No, I don't think it's the format. For example, nowhere in the rule book does it answer the question "how, EXACTLY, do I sign up for a rally race?"

There's a bunch of things like that have been passed down forever, but never documented by anyone.

For technical rule interpretations, like "are you allowed to get towed across the finish line?" the best answer is going to be the rulebook. For something like "what am I supposed to do when I arrive at a rally?" the rulebook would be a horrible place for that sort of info. I guess "handbook vs rulebook" is part of it.

Cheers,
Anders

I only was refering to questions that had answers in the rule book. Certainly there is other information that is just not there. Hence, this whole effort. smiling smiley

Anders, you ever see this link for LeMons cars? Is there equivalent for NASA Rally Sport? I think it's a pretty good way to get build rules across without inducing slumber amongst those who don't think too much beyond "Me Drive Car!!!"

That's a very nice document! A lot of work went in to that, for sure.
