Nasa vs RA cost?
December 20, 2012 07:46PM
Sorry for the noob question but I am rather noobish.

Are the fees for both of these relatively close or is one much more expensive?

I am going to be doing mostly rallycross this year mainly for cost and also to get used to driving on the slippery stuff. If I am going to sell some organs to actually attend at a $tage rally, I would like to have some idea of what im doing before I get there.

rallyx? like with scca DC region? RA license costs more than NASA. The closest event STPR (RA) will run you nearly double Black River Stages (NASA) but has more miles. does the car have a logbook or are you still building? There are plenty of threads here and on SS.com about per event cost, everyone agrees that you can spend $500-15000 per event.

rallyx like philly region, but i dont mind traveling a bit for an event. I am in the process of getting a logbook from RA. Thats about the price range I found for an RA event. I was just wondering if NASA was any cheaper.

Actually you just made me think of a question. Can I participate in a DC region event if I am a member of the philly region?

Thanks for the help.

Currently the cost for RA appears to be about 4 to 5 times more for the average event than NRS or USAC. Then organizers have their own expenses such as road rental, road repair, porta potties, route book expense and other printing, throphies, volunteer and staff expenses and the list goes on. That can easily meet or exceed the sanction and insurance costs.

yes, and you should since Philly averages about 1 event a year (they are working to grow the program). DC runs nearly year round at summit point (bring a dust mask in the summer). NER has an event in a couple weeks in CT. you are in a good place for rally and rallyx if you don't mind travelling a little.

picts of the car?

From the competitor standpoint, seems nearly identical $/mile as far as entry fee's go. At least in the events I've considered going to (pretty much just RWV).

Poughkeepsie rallyx cross events are ok, too. They have a decent schedule of events.

Most NER events are far enough away from me that it's at least one night in a hotel anyway so driving out a couple extra hours doesn't matter too much. Get into that mind set and you should have plenty of events to choose from.

That said, cost to seat time, get yourself into stage rally as soon as you can. smiling smiley

Every event is different, but the cheapest entry for some upcoming events:

Sandblast (NASA): 1 day, 70 stage miles, $350 ($310 for 2wd) entry + $180 for notes. (You can also "earn" $40 off by posting on 25 forums)

SnoDrift (RA): 2 days, 130 stage miles, $900 (notes included....$700 w/o notes)

When I ran RWV in 2008, I think it was 50-100 cheaper entry than most of the comparable 2-day RA events.

Thats good news. I guess I'll see you at an event or two this year.

I'm going to start a build thread after the holidays with pics and what not.

WTF??? Why does a sanctioning body team up with another sanctioning body? I wonder what brought this on, and if it affects Olympus.

Until I hear more of the story I'm willing to reserve judgement, but yeah, my gut tells me the same thing.
