FIA 8858-2002 is a certification for HANS devices, not helmets. It is still valid.

BS6658-85 Type A/FR is a helmet certification, which older Peltors use. The FIA has deemed that certification to be "Not Valid" after 31 December 2013 (the end of this coming year). R-A released a bulletin over a year ago (15 November 2011) stating they would be doing the same, and it specifically states that in their 2013 rulebook as well. NRS has not mentioned anything, and that certification is still listed as being valid in their 2012 rules. They have not posted their 2013 rules yet.

I would like to try on someone's Stilo. I'm in the same boat - my Peltor is gonna expire and I've been putting off getting a new one, cuz, well, it's not last-minutey enough yet.

Anyone heard if CARS is going with that? My wife just (like last month) bought a 6658-85 Peltor G78 with a 2010/04 manufacture date. If its going to expire in a year I want to be out of the house when she finds out. smiling smiley

Who did you buy this helmet from? Was it new? I would be INCREDIBLY pissed off if I purchased this from an unscrupulous dealer that knew this was an obsolete unit, yet sold if to me without disclosure. Yes, caveat emptor, but fuck some dealer taking advantage.

New old stock, but remember I'm talking Canada. I don't think CARS has announced this yet, but we usually follow up with other bodies in short order. As long as she gets a few years out of it I doubt she'll have a big issue with what she paid for it, but if its going to last a year she'll be pretty peeved.

According to Keith:

CARS will recognize the standard for 10 years from date of manufacture

Perfect, that's a lot more reasonable since by manufacture date its not even 3 years old and its only been worn in 1 Targa and 2 rallies.

Yes good they're following FIA exactly, except when they want to.

EVERY ASN can delete sections of FIA stuff for domestic events but the young 'uns from Calagary who now are taking over CARS don't really know how to ready any other langue apparently and don't know how to ask people so they pretend FIA is Sent Down from the Mountain like this:

Why do you feel the need to show how clueless you are?
Why can't you resist the urge to clutter a thread with your pointless, baseless, bullshit.

But... the discussion does raise an interesting question.

If you adopt a standard for a piece of equipment can you reasonably disregard the parts of that standard you don't like?

If, for example, you adopt a seat standard that has a max. 7 year life span can you extend that to 10 years, or ignore the expiry all together, just because you don't like the expiry? What happens when someone is injured when an 8 year old seat fails?

If you're looking for standards - for either safety or operations - why not look to the global sanctioning body for direction?

That said, if you think I'm in favour of lock-step adherence to FIA directives - you're just showing how little you know about me again.

I don't want to know you. I've seen how you obfuscate, and how nearly everything you say is a half-lie, or a quarter-lie, and you know it...
You are now a promotional puke.. I have been around promotional mentality people for most of my life, and they are are slime balls.

Some people say "Oh he's OK in real life" and some say you're "the same 'offended at the drop of a hat/whiner/aggressive keyboard denizen and a whiny fuck"....indeed some Canadians including some who know you say that the general Calgary area "if fucking up rally just like they have fucked up the country", and since I know that person has been involved in organising for at least the 21 years I've known him, I'll believe him, not you..

Do you have to argue with every single comment I make?
EVERY SINGLE ONE?

Explain now just what exactly was "clueless"? It was a comment about the Greek Choir of "FIA or we will all die FIA or we will all die FIA or we will all die FIA or we will all die FIA or we will all die FIA or we will all die FIA or we will all die FIA or we will all die FIA or we will all die FIA or we will all die FIA or we will all die FIA or we will all die FIA or we will all die"
which periodically drowns all sense out.

It didn't need a comment.

I don't. Just the stupid, ignorant, misleading and bullying ones. It just SEEMS like every one.

Your post sure seems to suggest you think the 'young 'uns from Calgary' have a blind devotion to everything FIA and are, somehow, responsible for CARS adopting FIA standards.
The reality is you have absolutely no idea of where the push for FIA adherance comes from or the fact that when I had a vote, much like my replacement, I was anything but blindly supportive of blindly accepting FIA standards. Bryan has all of one meeting under his belt, I can't say where his thinking takes him but I do know he's active and dedicated in getting feedback from the region and has the bottom line of the competitor in the forefront of his concerns.

Actually, it was your post that didn't need to be made in the first place. It brought nothing of value to the discussion and only served as another case of your posturing.
The thread was about Peltor Helmets and when they expire.
A question specific to Canada came up and it was shown that CARS is accepting the old, and I mean seriously OLD, BSI standard for longer than anyone, including the FIA.
Somehow you take this as an invitation to bash CARS and Calgarians in particular for being FIA first when you don't have a clue how the Calgary representatives have thought, spoken or voted on the issues.

What is the deal with Peltor, anyway? Are they no longer producing motorsports helmets? Or have they switched from the British standard to FIA?

Or are they bankrupt and gone?
