Cars good, idea on suspension improvement.
January 02, 2013 08:25PM
Picture this:
McPherson strut with a coilover conversion setup on it.
Using a bilstein HD I only have max stroke of 7.5-8". Now if I double up on springs making a dual rate stacked setup would the springs even get to do the extra work?
I understand their is 7.5-8" total insert travel but what if I give it 14" of spring?
Lemme know guys.

Hey Daniel, welcome aboard , good to see some sensible cars driving from the right end..

I do a fair portion of suspension for all kinds of rally cars, and I've eyeballed those Tree Haight Teens for years.. If you have 7.5 that's one thing , 8" is another. Which is it? Do you know precicely what insert you have in the front?
What bottom tube..
IF you have 7.5 to 8" with common linear springs you will without a doubt want a 14" spring, OR for a bit more money ---if there's some tire to spring clearence, there are "Ultra High Travel" 12 or 13" springs with enough travel..
Hows the clearence?

Here's another pretty important question for ling term happiness:
A) the inserts you have, do they look like this:

Or do they have some outer tube around the rod like yellow of something like this?

Where I'm going is the lower tube is an important part of having a long lasting set up and the important thing is how the tube is guided and how much overlap there is tween the upper and the lower..

So what's your set up like?
Got any piccies?

It would be funnier to do that in a Synagogue winking smiley

Then throw copies of Mel Gibson's movie all over the place and run out in a panic

I should of mentioned that I was going to try and do my best job without buying some Sooper-Bitchen stuff although it is my inspiration.
yeah I have a regular Bilstein insert. Im gonna make a educated guess of 7.5" of travel, their is still a bump stop inside too, and I have some good tire to strut tube clearance about 1". Are you available for some spring sales??
single spring sounds better than two stacked up *who knows how I would do that* ahhaha

anyways great to get a reply.
Talk to ya later.

small bearings? There are probably more strut housings at the junkyard than I can afford, and I can re-bearing it everytime if need be.

Fucktard, it must be your middle name.

What a remarkably stupid individual you are.

Let's try it again, and ignore the wankers.
Do the things look like this:

Or this:

Or, have you not had them apart?

The two styles have the same INSERT (if they're 40s) but they're guided inside the tubes differently.

So what do have and what do you suppose the overlap is....also

Do you have any idea what the stuff is valved at....

Can't very well recommend a spring without know what the inserts are valved at..

And if you want advice maybe you can help shoo the flies away. I'm sick of it.

Tim, I don't call you out on your bull shit ever, but that was a unnecesary addition to a perfectly good thread. Seriously refrain from being a troll for once. Not everyone needs to be biased to your side in their first interactions with John.
