Shop flooring
February 03, 2013 11:54AM
So, i had a 10 hour shop session. After long days by time I get home I can barely walk my ankles are so sore. I think it's time to get some kind of shop flooring/anti-fatigue mat for the shop or at least around the work bench.
Any recommendation?

What are you wearing on your feet when you do this?

I made a change to a workboot with a proper soul a few years ago and nearly all my problems faded (other than the strictly too many cheeseburger related ones) smiling smiley

Real work boots. All leather. Lace up. Tall enough to support the ankle. Cusion soles. I keep them soft by oiling them monthly. Your boots are your most important tools. Spend your money accordingly. My Redwing boots cost $300.

The key to a great set of boots is the fit. I like Redwing because they take the time to measure your feet and get you a good fit. If you are not used to wearing boots all day, you need to figure out a sock system first so you get the fit right.

I can drive almost anything in my boots.

I agree with what Robert said, excccceeeeepppttt....

RedWing is overpriced garbagy crap. I've never liked them, plus I'm a cheap ass. Dunno if our RedWings are different in Canuckistan or not.

I WILL SAY IT MAY BE BECAUSE OF MY FEET, SO YMMV. But that is simply my opinion of them.

I wear Dakota's, even though I could go buy a pair of $500 boots and expense it if my little heart desired (something something multi-million dollar surplus thanks to a project I worked on this year something something yesiambragging). They are great, and have different designs for all types of conditions. I find that high-ankle'd boots (nine inchers I think they call them?) work the best at preventing fatigue, but suck if you have to take them on/off more than once per day.

Boots and SOCKS will definitely make the big difference. Screw that anti-fatigue mat crap, while it does it's job, it's a pain in the ass to work around in a shop (IMO again).

A good set of skate shoes works for me. (good set designed for hard landings and low traction)

otherwise, check with some of your local manufacturers. Throwout mats are pretty common cut the damaged edges off and work away.

I'd have some in my garage as hospitals go through em pretty well but they also eat up screws and nuts like crazy.

Real work boots with the right socks....

A boot dryer to hang them on at night if you wear them every day.

Good quality boots will last and last.

Real work boots will have a steel toe and fit properly.

nothing squishier than half a horse carcas!

$40/ea 4'x6'x3/4"
toreLocatorSearchView" target="_blank" rel="nofollow" >horse mats

I cut them into 2' x 6' sections and laid them out in front of the bench.

Thanks Tom. That's a better deal than the 3X6 for $40 anti-fatigue mats I had found and it's nice that someone finally answered the question asked though the boots discussion is appreciated, the mats also help with warmth due to the aforementioned coldness and heat suck from the cement floors.

I wear indoor soccer shoes all the time.
Yeah, I need some decent work boots someday.

I just moved to working in the garage with my winter boots and i don't feel like my feet hurt anymore. I can also go inside the house and my feet are still toasty. It seems common sense, but keep your hands and feet warm and have proper lighting and you can keep working longer with less fatigue.

I just put in two overhead fluorescent lights and I'm kicking myself for not doing it a long time ago. In fact, I want to install two more.
