CDLs and health cards are hardly unobtainum....i've had mine since i was 18. i've never met tim, but the man owns and runs a (successful) driving school, i'm sure a CDL is well within his reach, and i doubt he is gonna risk messing up his income on the off chance he doesn't show up with the cars for his paying customers, cuz the tow rig/ trailer combo was some how illegal.

I be sorry as a muthafucka I did, still sorry I did n' hustled ta peep what tha fuck I holla'd a lil' bit better, or at least try to.

Depending on what year, what engine, trans, axle and 350 or 450 that tow rating could be as high as 24,000 lbs. So it may not be close to max capacity.

But is a safe way to haul them. I applaud Tim for getting that many cars togther and bringing them out. Only wish we where there too. The ice/snow storm kept use from making it out Thrusday. Just a point that someone may want to make to Tim or someone up there that his towing rig probaly isn't legal to haul that load. Or that that configuration isn't the right way to do it. Figure the trailer weight is #5000, each car is maybe #2800. That trailer is at #19,000 with out firguring in the truck weight too. That will be close to #9,000 by it's self. That put's it over the legal limit at #28,000 with out driver or gear. And diffently over the truck's rated capacity.

Oh well, they made there and back just fine it seems like so guess it's ok. Lots of folks just look at the trucks rated capacity and think yeah that'll work and buy it. Not what is correct and safe to do it with is all I'am saying and that a standard liscense might not be enough. Have seen the effects of not being able to stop in time because of a truck hauling too big of a trailer just because it was rated for it. Am sure most everyone on here has or knows someone who has had that 'OH SHAT' moment. When your being pushed by your trailer and can't stop or slow down. I drive for a living and to see something like that go by me just makes me shiver thinking of the "what if's". I like I said, more power to Tim for being able to put that many cars togther and bring them out. Just rethink your tow rig next time. Just because it say's "Not For Hire" on the door doesn't mean that you won't get stopped and checked out.

Several years ago a team from the east had there tow rig and trailer stopped at a scale house in MO and parked because the combo needed a CDL class driver. They where looking hard for a driver to come and make it the west caost in time. The team found someone close by to help out but learned a lesson that could have costs them thousands in lost funds for lack of checking laws.

How long do ya think the remaining tires on that trailer will last after one blows out?

I saw that rig in Salem and the truck (do we call it a tractor at this point? smiling smiley ) had company name and DOT/ICC numbers on both side doors. Seems unlikely a person would do that if they were cannonballing it. I can't imagine taking the risk of getting 5 customer cars impounded because I want to play fast and loose with The Man. I worked at a truck stop in high school and found commerce enforcement LEOs to be particularly without humor.

thats what i was saying... he's not likely chancing it with customer fleets.. and from what i read up on the 5 place stackers, and the fiestas weighing in at about 2200 lbs each, they arent near the trucks DOT limit.. yes, may need a CDL, and health card, but even as a 1 ton 350 its not at its load capacity, perhaps if the cars were stacked in the truck bed.. but they are on a 3 axle trailer...plus i believe some one above said its a 550..
