Seems like it would be a fun car for Group 5. The 1.6 turbo motors sound like they're pretty stout with the addition of some aftermarket rods. Not sure what the transmissions or suspension design is like though.

You gotta make sure and put a pink flower in the vase while you are rallying.

It's FWD so it can't be that fun. I can't imagine with the shape having a decent cage that didn't make you feel similar to how you would feel if you were trying to have sex in a very uncomfortable place, like the back seat of a Volkswagen...

I'll never build/own one...But for something to play around with in photoshop, why not...

I like Hondas when it comes to FWD(just due to the huge availability of factory/aftermarket parts), and BMW E36 cars for RWD(Kern's car looks like a blast).

As I recall that bug was fast. I thought I saw it last sitting on the side of a driveway for sale. I don't see why you couldn't put a good cage in it. Lot's of headroom.

It's just a gawddamn Golf with fawkin annoting sheetmetal compromising interior space and driving the cost of any damage sky-high..
Why bother just for the questionable looks?

The shifter is trippy. I've driven three on the tree in an old pick-up, but never thought about racing with one. grinning smiley

Wartburg never had 5 spd trans on production cars, so that was the only place there was room to construct one... That´s original factory rallycar trans in that thing... 3cyl. 1200cc 2 stroke...

When that car was racing it seemed that not a single rally could go by without a mention in the official PR of what type of flower was in the flower vase.
