Who would have thought posting a simple video could spawn such a debate!

And in Rally America's defense on the updates, cell service where we were most of the day was virtually non-existent. Not saying it is the whole problem, but it certainly wasn't easy to get calls or any sort of reliable internet going.

Our small update: FY Racing crew of Adam Yeoman and Jordan Schulze finished day one with a solid drive and no major issues. Stages are a bit snowy, and were freezing up and getting slick tonight. A torn intercooler pipe coupler slowed them on the first loop of stages, but all fixed in service and they are making up ground quick now. An added bonus was setting joint fastest time on the super special! Minor maintenance for the car tonight and it will be ready again for tomorrow. They are going to make a push for the podium!

If you Google RA for the website there is a direct link for 100 AW. That takes you to the 2012 page. Probably Googles fault but when you go to RAs home page it is all 110AW but fluff and no links to anything really useful. So you have to click the RA 100AW logo in the 2013 Championship line up and then it gets to the oage with the stage scores and the 'normal' stuff. Or so it seems. Not so much an issue with cell phone coverage but an even worse website than before.

Glad your guys are doing well. Sounds like a challenging weekend indeed and very nice to see some different names at the top of the leader board.

Not grumpy at all. Trying to learn why people make decisions they do. We learn by asking, not assuming...
In a competition when budget is presumably limited, it seems the number 1 priority is to make dollars yield something tangible like a more reliable car or a quicker car so the results per dollar spent are higher, and the fun quotient is higher..
But what da fawk do I noez?

My guess is that FY has it not just because it is cool but because it is cool enough to add significant interest to videos they produce and thus value to sponsors who want to capture the attention of the audience they want to sell goods to.... These guys have plenty of marketing experience from touring the world in a band (and apparently plenty of $$$) and have brought that with them to rally. It __seems__ that they have been successful at courting sponsors as a result although none of us knows the details of any of their deals...

Short answer --- Dollars spent to return on investment seems good even if it doesn't make them any faster.

Josh the info on the video was fine ..Cameras do distort the view and apparent speed...Everything always looks slower on TV...wasn't commenting on that..
Just asking Mike why?

Not what.

Obviously I don't understand a lot of the desicions people make.....and how they talk, the meaning of what they put behind words or parts...

So how do we understand anything?
Seems to me by asking..

...so back to the rally. Any word on road conditions for cars further back? Are the front runners getting through the snow/ice? Are cars further back seeing any gravel?

We were near the back, if not the actual back, and stage 5 (transited), 6 and 7 wer all packed hard and glazed over. Some soft ice and packed sleet on the sides and some roads were grooved, but not torn up.

I heard from Kieran late last night that they (him and Futoshi in the ex-USUK Focus) had a flat front tire on stage 1. Unfortunately they only had 4 snow tires, so a gravel tire was put on on stage (which included having the car fall off the jack!). Moved gravel tire to rear after stage 2 and completed the day. Car prepped for day 2.

Our (Dad and I) 4 th rally. Yesterday went well, I guess I was holding my own, didn't seem like I was too risky, but ended up 10th in the regional. only a couple 2wd ahead, 7 Subies. started day two 28th on the road, not bad, Don't really have much to compare it to but Blizzaks seemed to give plenty of grip.

Ran out of talent on stage 11 and centerpunced a tree on a R4 over crest that i severly overcooked....

What I learned: Don't make jokes about printing up "I beat Ken Block'" shirts at stage starts. Don't wear Rally CO Race Medic shirts under your firesuit. Don't have Jimmy D.'s " It's long, It's flat, She's screamin' fer it " running through your head on stage unless you also want the "fer Fecks Sake!!"

We're fine, cars are fixable or not....

question for ya... does the didgital cluster thats in the car require any special computer of sensors? or can i buy one and wire it in the suby harness? any plug and play units?

Does it make the car quicker? I don't understand the desire? Does it make the car more reliable, or stronger?
Or do you just have LOTS of money laying around burning a hole in your pocket?

LOTS.

well JVL thanks for asking:

i need a cluster any way, my car is a hodge-podge of parts from my Rally worx days and had planned to run some other gauges to monitor engine/ fluid temps so i plan to spend $$ either way, and they are not all that expensive, (at least not to me. Expensive is a term relative to the buyer, and is more based on personal opinion of value, not the price alone)... SO the data logging abilities that run beyond the display face are what actually interest me, you can go back and check what your highest temp was of each parameter you monitor during the entire stage not just when you have the time to get a glimpse on stage, or after a stage, you can even have them set to alert the driver of high/ low temps/ pressures that you aren't currently watching on the display....so YES, it WILL help with vehicle reliability by seeing a potential problem starting, allowing for minimal preventative maintenance(less $$ spent) rather than expensive overhauls/rebuilds/DNFS. so in that aspect the investment in what one might see as an expensive waste of money, i actually see as a tool that protects my investment in my race engine, allowing me to keep my low rally budget in my pocket till the next event, allowing me more seat time.

If i happen to see that all my temps are at the low end of what i deem acceptable i can then further push my engines tuning envelope, safely, thus making my car faster, also knowing that a computer will alert me to any issues my car is having, will allow me the mental security to keep 100% concentration on the road, allowing ME to be a faster driver as well..

so in the long run whats 1500-2000 when it could save me one 4-5k rebuild? not to mention if that catastrophe happens on stage, then i just threw away 1500 or so on entry fees, and prolly another 1000 on fuel for towing/ event lodging.

MY OPINION IS: for me/ my car, its worth inquiring about.

I be sorry as a muthafucka I did, still sorry I did n' hustled ta peep what tha fuck I holla'd a lil' bit better, or at least try to.
