Brakes
February 12, 2013 09:26PM
Im missing something here.

I replaced the stock master cylinder with a new stock.

I ran new stock size line. two from cylinder into one, into cabin, thru manual valve, then split back into two to the rear new disc brake set up. Im bleeding, as ive seen described on here. Yet im getting crap for pressure at the rear. one side is no grab when peddal is depressed, other side has minor grab.

What am I missing? Ive found no leaks. I have two manual valves and tried both.

Did you plumb the handbrake correctly---in into out and out outta out?
Piccies.

What JV is saying is a lot of the handbrake masters are counterintuitive for plumbing. Flip flop your "in" and "out" and try again.

May also just have to crack bleeders and walk away for a while and let gravity do its thing....

Same as above, check the plumbing: are there any high spots where air could get trapped? Did you bench bleed the MC before install?
When you tee'd your lines together, how were the lines coming off the MC? They rears on the mk2 come off the front. You have to tee the right and left line together, or plug one side. This shouldn't really affect pressure though, as the bore is the same for both pistons in the MC.
I use a one way valve bleeding system, like a "speed bleeder" but universal, or the good old vaccum pump. I usually can't get anyone that knows how to slowly pump a brake AND let it return all the way.
The Mity-Vac is awesome becouse it will/can pull air out of the system that has been trapped somewhere.

Which hand brake do you have? If it is the CNC one, pull the brake handle all the wy to the stop, and it will bypass fluid for bleeding. That was the trick to finaly get my rears to bleed.

Oh, and the way this master was plumbed, was the rear came off the bottom of the master and the fronts from either side of it. And yes, i went thru bench bleeding steps i looked up on the interwebs.

Hey John, Robert? Either of you going to be around this weekend? Could I bring the GTI by and have you tell me what the hell I did wrong with these brakes? I found a minor leak. But i still have no damn brakes. My smart phone is MIA, since monday. So email is the only way to get hold of me.
