There was a bit of a model update around 86.5, I think thats when they went 5 lug and started using the front mount intercooler, otherwise it was straight from the turbo to the throttle body. Don't remember when they started watercooling the turbos, probably about the same time. I vaguely remember something about if it had "Turbo" door handles it was essentially an 87 model without the wide body and power seat belts.
Wikipedia says '86 is the lightest model with the best engine management. After that the cars got heavier, but the management also improved.

Few years back I tossed my '87 on the scales and it weighed in around 3100 with a full interior.

The crank in those make a Volvo B23 crank look like a noodle.
And the Volvo crank is stouter than a small block Chevy crank..
The blocks are massive--and you being used to Ford castings which ain't bad,
is flat UGLY...

Awesomely heavy. awesomely inadequate brakes...rare-er than I dunno what.

Probably more common than XR4Tis, judging from production numbers.

Worldwide a total of 2,700,500 Sierras were made, mainly manufactured in Germany, Belgium, and the United Kingdom, although Sierras were also assembled in Argentina, Venezuela, South Africa, and New Zeland..

The Xratties were just a small part of that, and while it was the only Sierra in North America, parts for the car are plentiful all over the world.....

Starion and whatever the Conquest was: 88,958..

So you're right as ever, 88959 worldwide is more than 2,700,500 worldwide..

Can't ever slip anything past the bear trap like mind of Morison who always looks so broadly at everything.

Thank you for correcting me once again.

Kid, give you a hint. You're still yound. There is a world beyond the little place you and kieth live in..
Broaden your horizons..

Ig he says something, anything, it is always the narrowest, tightly parsed only toscore a point meaning, never to more broadly enrich understanding or to situate a factoid in a context...it's mainly to "score points"...

Such a shame it's so narrow view of the world...especially on so many subjects which it's clear he has only an extremely superficial knowledge of...

You don't have to make the same mistakes, you have a whole world and a whole life ahead..

John, you're so funny sometimes.

Global production has nothing to do with availability in the local wrecker, you know that.

I just get a chuckle when you decide to call something a rare car when you promote relatively uncommon car in North America as a good platform to build a rally car from. Sure, the XR4Ti has heritage and legacy development going for it, which are important things for sure, but they sure as fuck aren't common cars. (which is why people hoard them and end up selling them by the yard-full)

(and who the fuck am I 'scoring points' from, or on, or whatever... I have no idea what this game you speak of is.)

Starions are a very nice car . A low miler would be a great find to boot. That was the era when Mitsu was at a pretty high point , rivalling Toyota and maybe ahead of Nissan. Definitely ahead of Honda back then.

I believe the Starions were competitive in SCCA slowroom stock racing. SSGT if I remember correctly. A lot of guys in MIDIV ran with the hood latch popped. They claimed it was to allow extra air in to cool the motor. I remember it drove the flag & comm workers nuts, as they'd call it in that so and so's car had an open hood.

If it's going to be a have a fun nifty car to play with, sure, knock yourself out.

I always thought they were cool cars, there is a minty white one I've seen locally. Most around here have rotted to the ground, hell, it was hard to find a solid one 10 years ago.

Less talk. More rally.
