I like Portland and the general southern area of Washington. It's warmer, nicer drivers in Oregon. Great river, close to ocean, not far from mountains. Oregon has a personal income tax, Washington has about 9% sales tax and higher fuel costs. Everett is a Navy town and Boeing is there. Traffic sucks several times a day, winters are noticably wintyer.
Portland is home of Oregon Trail and about 2 hours from Olympus also a couple hours to Mt.Hood Rally and closer to Idaho Rally and the California/Nevada events. |

Mike all depends on who ya are and what your fambly is like.
Are you a consumeroid? Secretly wish you had a 35k Harley chopper? Voted for Michelle Bachman and thought that good ol Mormon boy was the sort or Leader we need? Is frequency of shopping malls critical? Or, a hipster who wears pegged jeans , has a soul patch and sideburns, rides a fixie bike and always want to be way ahead of the next trend? When you go out to tittie bars is it vital you can swill beer (OR) , or will non-alky drinks do if the wimmiz are hot enough (WA)? What do you really desire? tell me and I'll answer no jokingly. A house move with a fambly is import. I did it a lot as a kid and I haz good memory, so tell us more than just the job.. We won't tell anybody, we're not like the others John Vanlandingham Sleezattle, WA, USA Vive le Prole-le-ralliat www.rallyrace.net/jvab CALL +1 206 431-9696 Remember! I cannot answer this poll as there is no bacon option
There are parts of Everett that are nasty, there are parts of Portland that are nasty. Both are in areas that are just scenic as all getout. I've been in Portland traffic that was every bit as awful as what Seatlle/Everett have to offer, but I'll bet it doesn't happen as frequently. Tough call. I don't think you'll go too wrong in either spot, but if you're looking at just the city limits, I bet Portland has more and more various options for housing and culture or ambiance or whatever you wanna call it. here in MN we have both alcoholic and not.. the women gotta keep the bottoms on in the booze ones.. i guess its ok to stare at a snatch if your sober, but not if your drunk..lol... i remember in san antonio, (army days) they had bring your own beer nudie bars...i think its not a good sign if u need to drink the stripper pretty.... lol...
i have an 8 and 5 yr old... girl..boy in that order.. i know Boeing is in Everett.. that's one of the main clients.... i was in the army for 7 years... i can deal with military guys... quick joke.. why does the navy keep marines on their ships? Cuz sheep would be too obvious... Im a small town kid... grew up on 10 acres off the 2500+ the family owned.. we haz a family meat market, a bar, restaurant, bowling alley, construction company, sand and gravel, trucking... and im sure im forgetting some others... i like open areas, not a fan of tall buildings blocking the sky... or stars... harleys are loud, and useless.. i prefer my GS500...70mpg+ commuter.. no known shopping addictions, unless you count rally car paraphernalia.... im 30 and still have some jeans from HS that i wear regularly so definitely not a trendy hipster either... im not much of a coffee drinker and i was always taught that politics and religious beliefs are between you and whom you choose to pray i kinda like out skirts, small towns... if i have to deal with traffic either way, i'de prefer to just drive further out of town I be sorry as a muthafucka I did, still sorry I did n' hustled ta peep what tha fuck I holla'd a lil' bit better, or at least try to. I'm for Portland all the way. Maybe not Portland proper, but the general area is nice. Decent coffee and beer too. Traffic isn't terrible if you know how to get around the area.
Just looked up where Acuren is. Mt.Tabor is awesome! Since you prefer to be outside the big city. You can go from downtown P-town to fields/forests in under 20min, in multiple directions. Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 03/19/2013 11:57PM by Robert Culbertson. |

With your description and acurens location maybe check out the sandy/Boring area. Main thing is stay out of the burbs. So many other good places to live in Portland there is no reason to end up in, Beaverton/ hillsdale or Troutdale/happy valley
The PNW is so amazing. I'm from a small town in PA and Portland is without comparison to eastern cities. Don't worry about the buildings blocking out the sky, our mountains are bigger. Welcome Zap zap my ass... |

Once you leave the perimeter of the twin cities that drops off. See King of Diamonds. If you do move to Portland, check out Sassy's.
I concur. In all seriousness though, good luck no matter where you move and try not to laugh too much at the people in portland when they try to tell you how horrible an entire inch of snow falling is. ![]() Kirk Coughlin Woodbury, MN and River Falls, WI Quemadmodum gladius neminem occidit, occidentis telum est. |

I lived on Mt Tabor when I was a kid for a bit, I loved it there. Spent tons of time in the park and riding bikes around the neighborhood with friends. As for the poll, I'll be voting Portland. I may technically live in WA, but I work in Portland and I love this area. The traffic here is really bad at times, but it's not as bad for as many miles and it's so much easier to get to the coast and there are a lot more little touristy towns on our coast, plus how easy it is to get to Mt Hood the other direction as well. |
