mountain biking (or maybe downhill skiing) seems to scratch the itch for me when there is nothing else to do with the car. Richard Burns + RallyeSim gets about as close as a game can

Nothing beats seat time in a car but that is not available to most of us. Mountain biking (downhill riding especially) and motorcycles have done more to make me comofortable in the rally car at speed than anything else. I am still not fast but that's a different issue.

Only problem with nice enduro bikes or even old mx bikes is they are so good and so fun we're in danger of the obvious happening and people do those sports until they're old and stove in..
Like I did..grinning smiley

personally I believe nothing prepares you better for rally than say 10 years of very frequent (2 x month, 100-120 miles at a whack) hard agressive woods riding..along with occasional moto-cross to teach last minute braking discipline.
Few other things can we afford that will get look-see-do sunk into the DNA so its reflexive...not "natural" but trained reflex---cause we're seeing so far that lack of seat time is the major hurdle that even limitless budgets can't solve..

If I had a limitless budget, I would NOT have this issue. I also wouldn't be dicking around with rallying in any US championship and would instead just do the good rallies.

Three rally cars.
A decent RWD car in Finland for F-Cup
Iberian penninsula. One tarmac car, one gravel car.
Probably base out of Madrid so I could also spend some off time at the Bernabéu.

Barcalona, fool. Water. Language, history. Seaports are always more outward looking, broad minded.. You come from landlocked life, get out and see.

And from Barca not so far to great French tarmac all along the SW, S and SE, and Corse.

I liked Madrid better. There are some nice little towns up the coast though so that might be okay.
Yeah, French tarmac for SURE! That's another country with pretty much at least one rally per weekend, mostly tarmac, always dreamy.

ONE??? Try 4-6 or more. One random peek:

26/05 Auto Rallye de Mezidon-Calvados PAYS NORMAND

01/06 Auto 38ème Rallye de la Luronne & VHC ASA LURONNE
31/05
01/06 Auto 43ème Rallye du Forez & VHC ASA DU FOREZ

Take a look, its nuts.
France area 260,558 sq mi Population about 65million
Texas area 268,581[3] sq mi
US Population 315.5 million or almost 5 times more (4.8 x)

Is it density? around 34 sq/km vs 116? No because half or more of our area is empty? Lawsuits? No French sue, too? Eco-terroristes? No they have them too.

Oh yeah. I grabbed one of the French rally magazines (yes, there were multiple) from a newstand at a train station in Avignon. It had the calendar for the month of June and there was at least 4-6 events in each REGION for that month. Crazy and awesome.
