I'll talk to Jeff (email me details?). If he's not going, then sure. But if he is, we'll be on a pretty tight schedule to get back to Canuckistan earlier.
I'll get in touch with deets.

Anyone else intersted in crewing, or sharing crew, for OTR?

BOT:
It's great to hear of the new event coming to the PNW and particularly great to hear that the event has a title sponsor on-board already. I'm looking forward to competing in it (already one request, but I'm 'taken' for the season already.)

I just really REALLY wish there weren't so many sanctioning body/rules issues to deal with. We should all just pitch what we have and adopt the FIA regional (operational) rules with some commonly agreed, sensible changes for the North-American reality.

I guess RA just likes bad publicity and showing that they don't give a fuck about rally, it's all about control.

Thanks Gene and everyone else involved in making sure that "this" rally will still happen. You know you've got my support. smiling smiley

I agree the situation sucks, but at some point 'business' makes its way into the game. (It's the American way afterall)
When Fogg bought Rally America, the events in the championship would be considered part of the package. Frankly, signing a sanction agreement with a non-compete clause in it was the really silly thing to do. (no offense intended)

What!? NOT Olympus Rally? Count me out! I can compete in any number of rallies on awesome roads on any given weekend. Its the NAME that matters to me. I don't know what RA plans to do with the Olympus Rally name, but I eagerly await their informed and prudent decision.

RA doesn't own the Olympus name. Steve McQuaid owns the Olympus name. The agreement signed in 2012 was that RA would sanction all of Steve's events for the next 5 years after 2012. It is a weak agreement legally but they invoked it a bit on the late side and Steve wasn't comfortable moving ahead this year facing a possible legal challenge. Olympus isn't gone forever, Steve isn't gone. Both will be back . So we put on the new event and move forward. Hopefully it gets resolved and even better with one less sanctioning body in the world. We are too small of a sport for this BS honestly.

Restoration of the world to normal. Olympus can't happen in June anyhow. It's the wrong month. Thanks gene and crew for stepping up with a new rally and crew!

Agreed. It wasn't a big consideration when Havir was in charge and I think people just got complacent. There is a huge difference when a non-racer who isn't passionate takes the reins.

Saddest is the fact that the event is gone so RA gets no income and therefore wants us to have no fun either. Sour grapes? A regional rally held in Washington does not compete with RA in any fashion. They have no other event in this state. The non-compete clause didn't guarantee Olympus would be sanctioned in the future as a National...see COG as an example. The agreement also didn't guarantee fees, services provided or anything on RAs part for that matter. There are lots of theories and stuff coming to light but I'm not in a first hand position to discuss them.

Green Diamond Rally...

I dunno. Not only do we have a title sponsor for the rally, we have a title sponsor that coincidentally has a name that is appropriate for the situation. How cool is that?

alan perry
technical director, nameless performance stage rally

That's what happens when I get 3 hours of sleep, actual business name go whoosh over my headeye rolling smiley
