But for me to wait in line for a half hour to have a lady tell me to turn around & find a cash machine so I can pay her the unexpected $20 fee for my group to spectate.

I also heard they were charging for media credentials..... What other racing organization charges for media credentials? Does Rally America have so much media exposure, that it can charge the people responsible for sharing it to the masses?
Capitalism, don't you just love it?

That is a sad sight, that car was really nice. I was fortunate to see it at Libra before the loaded it the trailer for OTR.

They charged to spectate in the woods this year. It was kind of odd reasoning too. Originally they said it was for parking which was fine, then they said each person in the car would need to pay, then they were charging people who were walking. Oh and they only accepted cash, there was no warning or note that they'd be charging to spectate/park and they created such a long delay we missed the open classes first time thru. I've never paid to spectate in my 4 years of spectating at OTR.

The spectator guide said there was a $5 entry fee per person for spectating. The reasoning behind this was the parking/manpower that was provided, as well as there was supposed to be a shuttle to move people the 2.2 miles down the road to the spectating point.

They only had approximately 135 parking spots available (considering PIR was basically max capacity with thousands of people there), we got to the stage fairly late today and after trying to park on part of the road (we we're later turned around and told we couldn't as the car would be towed as it was a private road), we got to the front and told them we'd wait for a spot to open when someone left. They weren't letting us in even though there clearly were spots. They finally got the go ahead to do so. Spectating was mediocre to atrocious and could have reasonably been better with the space they had allotted.

So in short, it was a clusterf*&k. I'm happy we got in as Jeff drove 1000 miles to spectate this event, and while PIR was good (wasn't there WAAAAY more stages ran at PIR in prior years? It was impossible to spectate all 4 and difficult to watch 2/4 in a row).

Here is hoping tomorrow turns out better. Also, entry fees are kind of crazy (nationally). $2k entry fee? That gets you into the Mexican 1000. That more than gets you into WRC mexico and Dustin told me that included hotel rooms!

And finally, Matt Johnson thought my Anders shirt was hilarious. Ha.Ha. I told him it wasn't that funny and the fact I had to make it says a lot about the state of rallying in the US. sad smiley

Did they have spectator guides available? At one of the east coast events Fogg was rumored to be printing them in his hotel room the day of the event...

The RA money machine is rolling along. Foggy Jr was hiring out as Lestages videographer (sp?). 3 national entries pays the insurance bill to USAC with change. If you average 4 people per spectator car times $5 times 135 parking spots plus income from licensing media vests (can they sell their pics then????) you can easily see the economics . WAIT ..what if they charge volunteer workers? It is an endless supply of income! Money for nothing....

Since I only did two, they were super expensive $30 shipped. I actually completely screwed up and never did make a 3rd for someone from RallyAnarchy I was supposed to meet at PIR since I was SOOOOOO busy before I left for Mexico sad smiley I'll send the picture file to whoever wants it so they can make their own, or if you send me $35 I can get the same company to make them (turned out really great, I am wearing it as I type in the hotel room).

Shipping to the US plus being a Canadian company makes them expensive.

Navy Seal spectating. Borrow a route book, find a good junction you can get to. Not many options in Dufur, plenty in Hood area. Just don't get stuck in a Mazda 5 trying to take a jeep trail from fir to ketchum. Pick one or the other. smiling smiley

Some people have been saying fro almost 180 years that people of that sociology-economic class are and always have been parasites.
Used to be a lot of them in the woods down you're way...
Brave men to speak the truth....
The owners shot a fair number--cold blooded murder---Chehalis, Tacoma, Seattle, Everett..

There's also a reason it says Viva Le Prole-le ralliat.! in my signature..

More should adopt the saying.

Big assumptions from whoever cooked up and approved the idea.
Assumption A

Somebody would want to pay for a spectator guide...

assumption B--a big one---somebody could even find a way or place or person to buy Spectator Guide

Assumption C; person dreads any info other than pretty piccies.

So, who were the people doing this? Oregon Rally Group?
(organisers)

Or locals,
Or what?

I just looked at the spectator guide online and it does show $5, but just for Saturday's location. Both of Sunday's locations don't mention anything about a fee.

I know that last year they had trouble with stupid dumbfucks getting drunk and making problems at Saturday's spot. They hired two cops to be there this year.

My guess would be that the money probably was going to pay for the cops.
