Well, compared to really fast drivers from the rest of the world that are good enough to get funded to come over here and be a big fish in a little pond. There have been plenty of foreign drivers that have come to the U.S. and just did mediocre or got smoked by local drivers. Having said that, Reeves is stinking fast. |

Don't know how many saw this...or that a tarmac super special is indicative of of gravel talent, but about 80% of these drivers made me shake my head...holy understeer battles!
Can anyone point out the guys this thread was talking about? ...the international guys? Dave |

I think Cline was the same guy who parked his broken Mitsu on stage and then got into quite the shouting match with spectators over his failure to put out triangles, I think. Age mellows most people.
Anyhow he didn't cheat, get afforded special treatment or otherwise do anything underhanded. He may have benefitted from a situation created by someone else. A situation that was innocent in intent and shit happens. Reeves is fast. A 1600 cc, no torque, fwd, strange roads and embarrassed a lot of competitors. Proof we need to scrap the AWD bullshit and go back to 2wd championship. Obviously the big dollars, big traction formula isn't the benefit that people perceive. Oz has about 8 manufactures involved in their 2wd championship. Put a moratorium on AWDs, no more new builds, no rebuilds (repairs only). When they die then they can only be replaced with 2wd. No national championship for AWD. |

I don't get that. AWD and 2WD are in different classes, they don't race each other. Why can't someone run an AWD if they want to? What needs to change is giving undue preferential treatment to one over the other. Should go for any class, not just the number of drive wheels nor how much was paid to enter the event. Tim. |

Short gearing turns revs into torque. It's magic... What's particularly good with your finally adopting the policy I first suggested back in 1998 is this. Sure Rich guys can go spend $34,000 for a Pipo moteur full spec 275 HP motor, but that motor makes about 192 ft/lbs of torque... Any of our buddies here can have somebody here , oooooh let's just say somebody, build them a 3400 buck motor that maybe makes 210 to 220 bhp, maybe more, but that makes maybe 180 ft/lbs... The nasty high powered thing is going to be peakier than hell and will need--NEED a close ratio 5 or 6 speed to keep the motor happy and a driver who can drive it HARD and get all the shifts right so it doesn't over-rev the hell of bog big time...ya know the "whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa--duh-uh uh ih" syndrome. That takes skill.. Meanwhile of local guy with the smaller budget is only a little, less than 6-7% less in ft/lbs, has a broader powerband and doesn'y have to be a complete mad-man to drive it-- Result: different approaches, more closer competition.. Only negative thing would be the loss of all the top "talent" when they find that without huge amounts of torque, they can't drive nearly as well as they imagined. In the carefully craft proposal way back in 1998 called "Formula 2000" for introduction in year 2000, the idea was since the 2-3 guys buying their pseudo WRC cars are really rallying for the benefit of them that pay the bills aka sponsors aka Subaru USA's ad department, state that "The Manufacturers Title is a competition for the best Make in the season" andis OPEN The driver's Title competes for the HONOR of winning the Title "USA Rally Champion" (get it? a Champion is a person) and drivers points will be awarded in 2WD class(es) only Then every Blue Sububitchi and Misterburu owner can decide if they way to drive for glory of Subaru USA's ad Dept, or compete for Druiver's Title: 'Merakuh Champ-peen".. No compulsion, nobody forced to sell their car, free choices... John Vanlandingham Sleezattle, WA, USA Vive le Prole-le-ralliat www.rallyrace.net/jvab CALL +1 206 431-9696 Remember! Evan duel entered because he had free entrys from RA and Exedy for 3 events. I dont think you will see him duel enter any more this year. As for Caswell and his stickers can you blame him? Caswell stuck those things on every bodies personal property! He threw the punch that many wanted but werent drunk enough to throw.
Evan also runs ohlins nothing home made. I was impreesed by David Sterckx and ACP the most. I felt ACP stepped up. you new Reeves was going to be fast only ACP could even come close to his times in 2wd. As for drama wasnt Rifat towed in the last stage to knock Sterckx off the podium for 3rd over all? That video just made Caswell seem even more classier of an individual than I already thought him to be
![]() It's embarrassing how bad NORTH americans drive on pavement (in regards to rally drivers). Its like not a single one of them has ever pulled the handbrake on pavement before. The 90* corner at the gate on Sunday wasn't much better. Half the cars overshot the hell out of the corner also. When overshooting corner, pull ebrake, flip a bitch, and power out. Even if it isn't faster, at least it looks 1 million times better than the understeering one wheeler peelers that were going on mostly ![]() Admittingly enough, as B. Reeves showed, the fastest line was not necessarily full tilt slide into it, but a nice clean pavement line (for the fwd cars). For the gravel 90* on Sunday, people were going pretty hard into and out of the corner which was a nice change of pace. Adam Crane floored me with his driving, simply inspiring (and faster than Cody). Edit- Dave, B. Reeves probably carried as much if not more speed into the downhill 90* right on Sunday then Higgins or Block did and braked later doing it. Dude has some serious skills and has mastered what JVL always says (brake later). Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 05/07/2013 01:07AM by HiTempguy. |

Wow, this turned into a great thread. Let me add my $0.02.
Regarding my dual entries. We were only planning on running three events this year as my budget was cut in half from last year and I was fairly burnt out from the previous year. We prepaid in December to Rally America for 3 dual entry events (S*D, 100AW and LSPR) as my plan was to enjoy my summer and spend less time on racing. However the beginning of the season started much better than aticipated and with the enormous help from FY Racing we were able to get the car out to OTR. Rally America also let me transfer my prepaid LSPR entry to OTR. I didn't enter 100AW regional to "win" the honeyjar. The fact is when we paid for 100AW the honeyjar and the 100AW supps were not even released yet. Matthew Conte hopefully our email discussion ironed that out. Regarding OTR times. There was numerous issues with OTR times. Start with the force majour times on SS7 where everybody got scored a minute thirty faster than the slowest time which was ours. Then on SS16 myself, Art and I believe Cavett had no times scored as they didn't know what they were. This caused one major issue with times scored. Then onto the final part of where they cancelled the last transit back. We were unaware of this pulling into the MTC. We limped the car back on three wheels with no brakes on a very long and rough transit back. We were happy to just get the car to the finish. We were laughing about that and were instructed to line up on podium. We don't make or enforce the rules and any inquiries regarding are not up to me. Regarding Caswell. I have never commented on this subject so let me tell you what really happened as this story has been so embellished similar to his glourious WRC story. It started as I noticed he or his groupies stuck his stickers on my service truck and trailer. This is not funny to me as he and I had never once ever had a conversation and I would not have considered him a friend, to me this was a total sign of disrespect to me. He also vandalized many other teams equipment and the entire town of Salem which welcomes us into their small town each year. Later that night at the Road House he came in and stuck a sticker on ACP's back. As he was then conversing with Andrew I peeled the sticker off and stuck it to his forehead and told him how I felt regarding in certain words. He said it was just a joke and everybody thinks its funny. A local from Salem (that Caswell knew) was standing next to me. Caswell poked him in the chest and said "he thinks its funny". As soon as Caswell poked him he pushed Bill down, not me. I never pushed him or punched him. In fact I got inbetween the local and Bill. Bill left to later return to escalate the situation while calling the police. The police escorted Bill out of the bar and that is the end of story. I said many words to him but I NEVER pushed him or punched him. The only contact I made with him was putting a sticker on his forehead. Regarding the suspension thing. I have no idea what you are talking about as I never made suspension for anybody. My subaru is mostly grey. Another person with good information. Regarding being a crybaby. Love it!!! I ask some simple questions about racing NASA series. Thanks for posting the link to prove yourself wrong Grant Hughes. You are yet another person with a opinion who has never had a converstion with me. Thanks for the time and my first every post in this wonderful forum which proves that these forums are full of misled information. No wonder why I don't spend much time on these. Rally on.
