Also, I'd guess that since there was a pain in the butt landowner causing problems, and limited parking available, maybe the $5 was a way to try and still have a spectator option there, but to keep so many people from showing up to it. (oh, right, and the shuttle, gotta pay for that too)

![]() Here is a photo of the spectators guide for the Saturday spectating spot. No mention of a $5 fee other than people taking the shuttle. I didn't check online & I imagine few did as they were already at the race. But really how hard would it be for them to buy one of those phone credit cars swipers, or make an announcement at Parc Expose, or at PIR the previous day. We stopped by the firehouse in town on our way out to make a donation that the rally parking was supposedly going to, & they had no idea what we were talking about. |

Well reading plain English that says anyone riding the shuttle pays $5. Nothing about parking fee . Does say passengers may be dropped off close to area, no fee mentioned, and the car returned and driver could pay $5 to ride the shuttle. So somebody made a mistake, either in the printing of the spectator guide or in the execution of the actual plan. Unfortunate. I'd rather blame RA than the ORG people who are not bad guys at all.
Charging for PIR is ok, we charge at the ORV park because the county requires it as part of the fees. Charging for parking or a shuttle is ok also, but there is a presumption the car will be secure and the shuttle ride safe and reasonable (no big waits). Charging for spectating in the woods might be going a bit beyond what some are willing to accept. I don't know. The porta-pottis cost organizers money. The staffing costs something as well as the trouble of babysitting people who are drunk, bored, stupid, tired or just didn't know what to expect. The whole deal is getting so much trouble and expense it is hardly worth doing any more. Hopefully RA collects enough money this year to recoup the imaginary (or self induced) losses from last year and just go away before the sport does. Hopefully ORG survives this event and doesn't take a financial hit, they are a hardworking bunch and should get nothing but respect. |

That's a bad habit you have there Gene, reading what's printed. You'd think you woulda learned by now.. I don't see a problem REALLY with a fee--smal one--for parking-a car---at a per CAR rate, or a small fee to spectate---there ARE expenses as you say... I paid "parking" about $6 at WRC Sweden some years ago at each SS I vistited... and didn't have to hike 2 miles.. Of course paying $6 to see Sainz, Kankunen, Mcrae, Ericsson, Auriol, Alen, and another 185 cars is one thing, to see a few rich guys and then my friends is another.. Yeah I hope the coin drops for those people that Foggy Americar is, to put it as polite as I can, not the way of the future....especially as more events bail... Dunno if anybody did take a picture, Jeff had his camera out all weekend so we'll see if we have something. Might take one when I get back to Alberta!
Also, lots of drama at the podium; Evan Cline checked in a hour late for a time control (or something like that) and RA still wanted to put him in the 3rd podium spot for pictures and interviews. Lots of unhappy people. Considering they are charging $2000 to enter nationally, I'd think they can get their shit together enough to make sure the proper people are on the podium (which IMO, unless you are fighting for 1st in your class championship wise, being on the podium at an event is more important than having your name on the results say so). |

I like Evan, but I was pretty peeved at 100AW he dual-entered both national and regional, I'm assuming because he knew there was a regional "honeyjar" challenge that he could easily sweep up, and ended up walking away with $1000 for beating out the local guys in their beat up old Subarus. I really wanted to see Justin take top honors there!

That was basically it. They asked all top 5 SP competitors to line up for the podium and one of them said no, they wouldn't take part in the farce of a show that was happening. Even though Evan knew that he was in the wrong (MY understanding, I don't know if it is officially settled yet), he basically stood for the podium and sprayed champagne while Mike Goodwin sat off to the side. The fact is, I showed up at the final mtc BEFORE any competitors did. Evan didn't show up until (at least) 30 minutes after everyone else did, and the SP podium was actually pushed back trying to find out if he was there/had checked in and they switched to doing the 2wd podium before SP. I saw this with my own eyes. People were rightfully pissed. |

All I know is his foray as 20 something into being--like all 20 somethings-- a suspension expert----together with some other guy who did the work.. Turns out it was more of an ex-spurt.. (It was some English stuff, like Leda or something thay welded ears onto..too bad the things often lost lots of oil while sitting in garagae, left a lotta people dangling , and deposits "disappeared". IMO, technically, if you have a beef with someone it should probably be with RA for allowing a regional competitor to enter nationally (dual entry) or with the organizer for allowing dual entry competitors to be eligible for the honeyjar. He was within the rules. Or... we should be having a discussion on what kind of people should be national vs. regional competitors. |
