to be fair, grant did go back and say it wasn't what he thought and provided a link

however, thanks for your side of the story, or I'm assuming you are you though you haven't included your name anywhere, which at least those who are speculating, gossipping, questioning or talking smack have done

Actually - if you click on the username in the post Evan HAS filled out his profile information so it may be a forum glitch that isn't showing it in the posts.

Naw, it's showing now. Maybe just a timing thing, or he responded first and then went back and added it. Either way, it's all good now. I was just having a JVL moment and felt the need to be vocal about it winking smiley

I thought that was the definition of a JVL moment.

good point

I actually don't know how much I care about people putting their names, etc in their profiles. I don't know why we enforce it for some people and not for others, that really doesn't make much sense to me. So that's probably the only thing that bothers me about it, having a forum rule that is pushed, but yet some are allowed to skip it.

Always multiple sides and views to a story. Thanks Evan for bringing yours.

I believe the last transit was declared a 'no penalty' zone for scoring by one of the organizing staff, not RA, a Steward or Evan Clines representatives winking smiley. At the time it seemed an appropriate reaction by the individual but could have been handled differently and I'm sure lessons learned. Obviously one should never quit early and give up. Rally attracts many people for the simple characteristic that it is one of the more 'unstructured' motorsports. There are times where that lack of structure and controlled environment has surprising results. People can both benefit and lose to this happening.

Congrats are in order to anyone who finished the weekend in any fashion. What a slugfest.

I think Cline was the same guy who parked his broken Mitsu on stage and then got into quite the shouting match with spectators over his failure to put out triangles, I think. Age mellows most people.

Anyhow he didn't cheat, get afforded special treatment or otherwise do anything underhanded. He may have benefitted from a situation created by someone else. A situation that was innocent in intent and shit happens.

Reeves is fast. A 1600 cc, no torque, fwd, strange roads and embarrassed a lot of competitors. Proof we need to scrap the AWD bullshit and go back to 2wd championship. Obviously the big dollars, big traction formula isn't the benefit that people perceive. Oz has about 8 manufactures involved in their 2wd championship. Put a moratorium on AWDs, no more new builds, no rebuilds (repairs only). When they die then they can only be replaced with 2wd. No national championship for AWD.

This was my second rally back in 2007. I had a very experienced co-driver with me who flipped off a spectator as we tried to push the car clear from the corner. Once again this was not me that did this, yet it was my teammate for that event. He apologized for his actions on SpecialStage and is still very involved with rally (behind the scenes) to this day.

There are a couple of cranky old farts who don't have full names or locations listed but they both did for a very long time. Most newbies (to the forum at least) are universally chastised into putting their information in place.

I do agree, however, about the forum rules - which boil down to basically two things name and civility - being unevenly enforced being an issue.

BTW: Thanks for volunteering on the weekend!

You are welcome. I had a good time. I believe I gave you a driver's bulletin on Saturday, stage 11 maybe?

Somehow, all three days, I managed to forget to print out any time of entry or start list.

Quite possibly.
I was in 399 all weekend, until the first corner of Sunday, top third of the pack. (Not like Billye Irvin, and I think at least one other codriver, who showed up in different cars through the weekend)

Lotsa people working the event - many looked familiar-ish as I've done the event 6 times now in the last 8 years.

Truth be told, I probably couldn't pick many of the people on this forum - including John - out of a police line-up.

It's embarrassing how bad NORTH americans drive on pavement (in regards to rally drivers). Its like not a single one of them has ever pulled the handbrake on pavement before. The 90* corner at the gate on Sunday wasn't much better. Half the cars overshot the hell out of the corner also. When overshooting corner, pull ebrake, flip a bitch, and power out. Even if it isn't faster, at least it looks 1 million times better than the understeering one wheeler peelers that were going on mostly sad smiley

I was watching the video with my wife who just got back from a 3 day Skippy pavement class (thanks to PPIHC for banning navvies...this is about to get expensive, LOL). We were both thinking that the smooth road race line was probably quickest, but agreed that someone making proper use of a handbrake got style points. I was surprised that none of the cars were trying a scandi flick thru it and roasting the tires the whole way out...that would've been double bonus points!

The thing that gets me is that once you've turned and your tires are howling, going to max lock isn't going to make the car turn better...was flat out silly how many people haven't learned that lesson. I'm chalking some of that up the fact that 95% of the field was running gravel shocks and probably half were running rally tires...but still.

Also surprised how many people seemed to forget how to shift into 2nd gear...

Dave

In our case it was gravel set-up, worn gravel tires, a driver who hates tarmac and not a lot of discussion about the approach to the corners.

I think Ken showed a ton of maturity by not backing into the drag strip turn-around with all four tires billowing smoke.
