So i had a busy weekend. Finallly finalized a deal for the Rx-2 after like two years. Many thanks to Dan for putting up with trailing cars and the shenangians that come from Mazdas that sat for 34 years and had no keys. This will be a little long term resto-mod project. I've wanted one since i was like 17, so its a long time coming. Hard to find these little buggers since from i heard, Gene rallied all the of them. Except this one.
The Audi i kinda just came across. Its a 1987 Coupe GT with the 2.3 "NG" engine. Complete, just something in the fuel system failed. Another "always wanted car" and with the S6 wagon being a total asshat since it has 90s Audi build quality.... i acquired this. Now i just need either an FD rx7 or a Mk1 or Mk2 Ford Escort and I will never buy another car again. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() First Rally: 2010 First RallyX: 2004 (a bunch) Driver (0), Co-Driver (7) Organizer (3), Volunteer (3) Cars Built (2.5), Engines Blown (2) Cages Built (0) # of rotations (3.5) Last Updated, Apr 9, 2023 |

Gene did kill them all, I drove my very first rally in an Rx2.
Oh what I did not know back then in the 1980's when trying to rally that thing. Good luck fixing them things up. I recently thought I should get an original quattro for the hell of it. Derek In the long run reality always wins. |

thanks! i got some good clean parts for it with the car from the guy (bumper and tails) and that goes a LONG way. Rx7 suspension can work, and i know my rotaries well enough to solve engine issues. Just really a mess of body work ahead.

yea its a 1995. 250k on it. a/c doesnt work. climate control doesnt work often. sunroof sometimes operates on its own uncontrolled, hatch is stuck locked and i cant use it, cruise doesnt work, two of the gauges dont work, paint is toast, etc etc etc. the power steering leaks like sieve... . You have the standard litany of easily fixed items. I assume you have been to quattroworld forums where each of those items has the repair spelled out. A/C --- need more info Climate control --- take apart and resolder Sunroof --- easy fix well documented Hatch --- Open up side panels (hinged but hidden) and pull the rods to open from the inside. Then disassemble and fix broken bits. Gauges --- pull cluster and re solder Paint --- meh Power steering --- leaks at 'X-plug;' most likely. 10 minute fix.... ____________________________________________________________- One. WTF is wrong with you??
I didn't ruin all the RX2s. Had one rally build but I sold it before I had a chance to break it. Had a nice red one like Dave's, spoiler and all . Wished I had that one back now. Maybe a couple more along the way. The Audi looks like our '87 that Brent rallied a few years ago. The fuel pump relay is an issue with those. I had 3 of them before I got rid of the rally car. NO WINDSHIELDS NEW !!!! just so ya know. There is a prisitine white 87.5 locally for sale around $2kish. Needs nothing. Leather, digital dash, very well cared for. |
