WTF!?!?!?!?!?!?! How can this even be a discussion or a topic at this level? Is Red Bull turning to screws to pander to the short attention span of the flat brim generation? Intercom and electronics dude. www.zerodegreec.ca |

NASCAR has Infected everything. Fuck the French Family, sorry sack of assholes that essentially stole everything from everybody ELSE involved in the series.

I guess I'd have to agree with that. How the rules define the race IS the race. If the final stage decides, that IS the race. So the rest of it is meaningless (or nearly, depending on what they do with it.) Why not just substitute naked ladies for the actual drivers on the final stage? If you're going to pimp out the sport for "the show" (Actually quoting "the show"!) then why not go all the way? Ok, you can give them a FIA rated thong or something. ![]() Really, they haven't even done THIS yet, which would be a much easier option. ![]() Grassroots rally. It's what I think about. |

Damn Anders you're wrong!
Naked ladies on all the OTHER stages except the one that count.. And, ever since the first Regional questionnaire I got a hunnert years ago, since there will strippers at every control ----makes sense to have nekkid ladies on all the SS but the one... Kinda like a pinch hitter brought in for the game winner Home Run.. The way the children in marketing departments of "hEXTREMEZ SPORTZ " aimed at the little puppies in "the target demographi think, they could make a 3 hour program from a 12minute SS....if the over 30 min extravaganza for whassis name jumping some carefully made gap jump is any indication..Over 30 min for a 2 second jump reshown 15 times..... This really in a way mimics what we are going thru right now. Fogg/RA feels the need or right to make a sizeable profit off of us...the competitors, organizers and volunteers. I especially feel no need to work out on a stage or dedicate hours of my time to put money in someones pocket. I'd rather donate time to helping someone, paint an elderly persons house, mow their yard, volunteer at a food bank. Anything other than spending my time on earth putting money in Foggs pocket at no benefit to me.
Rally can survive the insurance costs, road fees to a point. It will not be a media gold mine or make a sanctioning body (private owner) independantly wealthy. The WRC/FIA people must remain jetsetters and the elite wealthy. In order to do that these days they will need to find a way to generate income from the public. The value isn't there any longer for manufactures and teams to be raped financially. 2 Days and 100ish miles of hrad racing to let the winner if the last stage take all? Really? Why try hard for the two days? Finish last, cheap out on tires, save the car, then let it all hang out on the last stage. Nah...saddest part of the whole thing is the power stage or last stage are still driven flat out by most of the top drivers anyway. Nothing really would change except pissing people off. |

From what I've seen, the issue is the lack of meaningful action on day 3.
I think the answer might actually be - and some will hate this - shorter events. I was chatting with Buffum once about the length of Canadian Nationals and he was candid about the fact that he thought much over 150 to 170 km was pointless because the positions were pretty much set by then and only something out of the ordinary would change the finishing order. I don't see how this plan makes any sense, unless there is a separate 'power stage' championship First Rally: 2001 Driver (7), Co-Driver (44) Drivers (16) Clerk (10), Official (7), Volunteer (4) Cars Built (1), Engines Built (0) Cages Built (0) Last Updated, January 4, 2015 ![]()

I agree with a lot of that and I'd think that rally in its self lacks meaningful action from a viewing standpoint , doesn't much matter Day 1 or Day 3. Watching a rally (for the non-enthusiast) is much like watching a porn movie filmed in real life, including birth, childhood, school, growing up, courtship and then the 30 seconds of excitement. Boring as hell. Having a car blast by at some unknown speed, alone, for a limited view every minute or two doesn't make for high dollar entertainment. It can be editied in camera to make a reasonably exciting presentation but that has to be sold to someone for a big bunch of money. We've seen repeatedly that isn't an optimal solution. |

What changed between the 80's/90's and now that it isn't? It was at one point. As I pointed out elsewhere, I have over 12000 views of Rally Argentina on my youtube channel which I didn't promote except to people on the rally forums. Almost 100 comments of people saying "I can't get this in XXX country, thank you so much!" I'm also curious how TV earns them money (as TV seems to be friekin' expensive). Produce the same shows, air them on youtube so everyone can see them. Sell ad space as they have been doing forever. Profit. The more people you get to view your product, the better... right? I think what is really happening is that the FIA (in regards to the WRC) is acting like any other business that grows relatively large, and then finds itself having to downsize as the amount of people that "buy" their product shrinks; they are doing a terrible job at it, and expect that they should be able to make mountains of money off their cash cow as they have done for decades, rather than actually work it as a business and adjust for the financial/demographic times. For what they are suggesting, they might as well do a deal with GRC and get rid of the sexual tension in the air. ![]() |

This is a stupid plan.
The problem is the same as here, same problem as plagues all motorsports. Capitalism and the need for profits. WRC is even worse as there are more foxes than chickens. The 80s/90s generation is much different from today's generation. Too few people are captivated by any kind of auto racing. 90% of viewers on youtube are bored by 30 seconds into the video.
