Marcus has had a few crowd moments but too stoic. Travis is a star for those same qualities.

On YouTube, there USED to be video after video of funny Marcus quotes/collections of quotes. Like my favorites "I am fed up with this car" and "Three gears! Tell him we only need three!" and "I don't know, I'm not a meteorolologist"...

...but they were all taken down because someone owns everything he said, I guess.

A conspiracy theorist would say that THEY want to control who people like... but it's probably because of stupidity, not malice.

The only reason I can think of is live tv viewings on day three. If they do recaps of days 1 and 2 on day 3 during interemission or between super rally races. It would give them live tv options, live announcing ,pit reporters. All the Nascar pre race show and race hype. People would tune in to see the end of the rally and get the scoop of days 1 and 2 live. This done properly should work. The only issue I see is the actual rally seems pointless with no reason to push and win days 1 and 2 and to build hype for the end on day 3 with a 10 min lead the old way is bad tv.

So the question is how do you get teams to push on day 3 in a closed arena for the tv and annoncers live? Make it an all or nothing event should work but doesnt seem to fit to what rally is. And to have as a seperate points rally makes all the recap video and days 1 and 2 ponitless.

Make it an all or nothing event

Pretty simple: instead of the current way the power stage is ran (3 points up for grabs), make the power stage at each event a complete "event" in and of itself.

So, you have people having to strike a balance; how hard do they want to go for the full rally, vs how hard do they want to win the power stage/use up their car. Especially if they make it so the power stage is the last stage of the event with limited service beforehand. The only thing I can think of that is wrong with this is if a team really DNF's before the end of the event... but the points are available at all rounds, so it doesn't really change anything.

I could get behind that. Lots of drivers can show brief spurts of speed, could really shake things up.

From what I've seen, the issue is the lack of meaningful action on day 3.

I think the answer might actually be - and some will hate this - shorter events.
I was chatting with Buffum once about the length of Canadian Nationals and he was candid about the fact that he thought much over 150 to 170 km was pointless because the positions were pretty much set by then and only something out of the ordinary would change the finishing order.

I don't see how this plan makes any sense, unless there is a separate 'power stage' championship

Buffums been saying that since the late 80s "All the positions are" verbatim--as bad as me with this monomania.

Bullshit then, may bullshit for most EXCEPT THE RICH GUYS --who have gone crazy and bought cars that require constant service and mountains of parts.. THEY and the people just cruising at 38mph on SSs MAY SETTLE IN and cruise in position, but not everybody does...

I like Buffum but he know which side of the bread is getting butter and that's what he talks up..

So sure for those just doing this for the appearance of rallying, so the people spending millions have some "action shots" THEY can say they are done at 60 or 70 miles, so no point, but some people who spend their OWN MONEY towing 3 days might want more than an hour and 20 minutes of fun...
I agree with this. It seems like Mr Boffum has lost his memory because rallies used to be 500+kms and there USED to be a lot of changes. 60 miles would be just on the 1st night! But again Buffum might not have realized that since he always had a better ride and in HIS view, yea it was decided early on.

The good thing about this news is that its so absurd that it wont ever happen.

And Jost Capito just because he started winning a few rallies thinks he has weight in the motorsport realm to be pushing ideas like this. He should've stayed at Ford, although he's the one that made the killed the AWD project for the Focus RS!

To make it an event in its self makes days 1 and 2 pointless doesnt it? Just run rally cross at that point its even better tv. They have the wright idea just needs to be more thought out and made so teams race EVERY stage as if it were the last. Maybe not add up just times but maybe add points to each stage as well.

Bring back homologation.

The only cars competing at any WRC event that aren't homologated may be some of those in the national portion of the event, ie. the "Rally America" class at WRC Mexico.

Homologation never left.

Yes, not what he thinks it means. My crystal ball says he means x number of road going cars sold to the public. 500-1000.

Yes I meant bring back Gr.A

Gr.A was the best time for racing & road cars for touring cars & rally.

The world rally car was the worst thing to happen to the WRC.

N and A was from beginning back in was it '81 min 5000 units.
By 1 Jan 1993 whining from facrories reduced the GpA number to 2500, GpN remained at 5000.
GrB was 200, of which 10% could be "evolution" models, down from 400 for the old Gp4...

Roadracing GpA allowed a 10% "evolution" deal--thence came the RS500 Cosworths for example.

Always amusing seeing people make up total shit when selling the tired old 323 or Gaylants which were homologated under the 5000 rule --"number 119 out of 1500 ever built!!!!!"
