How to get started in Rally video

So three boys sit down for an hour to discuss how to get into rally. I made it 17 minutes in...

They make it sound much more expensive then it has to be imo. Also the video is probably borderline self serving, which I would expect when a shop gets a large TV show, they want to plug what they sell/work on.

I "listened" to the whole think while working, so maybe missed a few things.

Does $120k for a SP car seem absurd to anyone else? I would think with that kind of $ you could have a top privateer Open class car instead...wouldn't hold a candle to the 3 pro cars, but seems to me if you wanted to spend that kind of money, SP contingency isn't a huge factor.

Also, $3k to run 3 rally events seems too cheap.

I wanna see someone clean house with a $20k BMW...wasn't Wyatt building one of those?

Yeah particularly the unstated but explicit assumption that a person will "work they way up" inevitably to a turbo 4wd car..., which is one of the major detriments to the growth of the sport....

Also notice that no (so far) mention of any dollar amounts. "Oh reasonable for used Fiesta...." to start with...
Yeah reasonable to start with :

That's $5,200...in Alabama

This is

$6000 in New Yawk City

And here in Sleezattle only $10,000 for this:

For stock cars all with autotragic...

"real reasonable cost"

Agreed on all points, Dave. $120K? Buy a Fiesta from TON for $60K? That is going to turn a lot of people off.

Cage a econobox, buy some tires and safety gear and go have a fun time.

Posting that video on Jalopnik is like posting a 1 hour instructional video on how to get into med school on a site that caters to fans of TV medical dramas.

Actually, I'm pretty sure either Wyatt or Billy (or both?) pretty explicitly said that a person will want to work their way up to an open class car.

Comparing the Fiesta and a Mk2 GTi kind of makes sense, at least until you consider that the GTi was rated for as much as 130bhp (at 2400 lbs), and the Fiesta is about 120bhp @ ~2600 lbs...

Also, as one would expect:
* you have to learn LFB to be fast
* FWD is always (ALWAYS!) faster than RWD. (I realize that current Australia results do actually bear this out to some extent, but the differences between the two are still a fraction of the time that both Reeves and Orders were putting into most of the field.)

Shocker... guy who owns a shop that builds rally cars for people says people should build their own cars (which often involves outsourcing the high labour items like cages and custom fab work)
